UAE No Longer Censoring Films
The United Arab Emirates' Media Regulatory Office has announced that new movies will be released in cinemas there without any censorship. The move comes in the wake of the UAE’s decision last month to ban Disney Pixar's Lightyear based on what it said was "a violation of the country's media content standards." The animated film depicts a romantic kiss between two female characters.
Alamo Opens Staten Island Cinema
This coming Friday, July 22, the Austin, Texas based cinema-eatery Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas will open its newest theatre in the New York borough of Staten Island. During a soft opening period running through July 27, guests will receive discounts on food and soft drinks while the staff trains and gets up to speed.

Box Office Numbers Positive but Mixed
Another Marvel blockbuster thundered into the Global number one spot this past weekend as Thor: Love and Thunder debuted at $303.2 million. The Domestic launch saw Love and Thunder ($144.2 million) outstrip 2018’s Thor: Ragnarok, also directed by Taika Waititi, by just shy of 17.5 percent. However, it significantly trailed 2022’s previous MCU title Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (-23 percent), according to a new report from the London-based analytics firm Gower Street. A similar trend was seen internationally where Love and Thunder’s reported $159 million debut across 47 markets tracked 29 percent ahead of Ragnarok but 32 percent behind the Doctor Strange sequel. Overall, box office results were mixed across the board.
AMC Has Busiest Box Office Weekend of 2022
AMC Theatres has announced that both domestically and globally it achieved its busiest weekend of 2022, Thursday, July 7 through Sunday July 10. Led by the opening weekend of Thor: Love and Thunder, the box office was propelled by several summer blockbuster titles, many of which have continued to perform well for several weeks.
