Angénieux will unveil a new line of mid-budget zoom lenses at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas next week. The company says the move was prompted by the proliferation of 4K digital screens and the advent of Ultra definition television that are escalating the demands for high quality motion picture content. A vast spectrum of new generation digital 35mm cameras has become available, and these are being deployed in numerous production environments encompassing movies, dramas, commercials, concerts and live sports events.

Legend3D Upgrades Facility with an SGO Mistika System

Legend3D has announced that has purchased a Mistika 3D system from SGO. It will integrate its Mistika post-production system with two Assist Stations into the conversion and visual effects pipeline at the company's 60,000 square foot studio with multiple theatres and R&D facilities. With the capacity to work on up to three full feature films and multiple commercials concurrently, Legend3D has delivered projects such as The Lego Movie, Man of Steel, Life of Pi, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Smurfs 1 & 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and many others.

Codex Unveils the Action Cam

Codex has announced Codex Action Cam, an ultra-compact, all-in-one, digital cinema camera and recording package for 2D and stereoscopic 3D production. The camera is designed for use as a supplement to larger camera systems on commercials, TV and movie productions as a companion camera when regular camera packages are too large for the situation or location in which the production is trying to shoot. The new camera will be on display at the National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas April 7.

Barco Adds Alchemy to Digital Cinema Projector Line

Barco has introduced what the company is calling “a groundbreaking update” for its digital cinema projector families. Named Barco Alchemy, this new generation combines media server functionalities with cinema processing electronics to further increase reliability and ease-of-use in the projection booth. The Barco Alchemy technology is fully compatible with all new and installed Series 2 Barco projectors. The company says that the 4K Barco Alchemy projectors are the first to show 4K movies at 60 frames per second and 4K 3D content on a single projector.

Tracking BlackTrax Audio

Real-time tracking technology company BlackTrax recently appointed two-time Academy Award-winner Christopher Jenkins to be general manager, BlackTrax Audio. The newly formed division’s mandate is to focus on developing the company’s 3D and spatial audio applications and installations. Jenkins is keeping his job as president and CEO of Bisby Productions, a full service post-production sound company. Bruce Freeman, chairman at parent company Cast said Jenkins is working to incorporate BlackTrax in future projects that he is working with Bisby, as well as to introduce BlackTrax to the audio market. I recently spoke with Jenkins about his new role.
