Eugene Riecansky claims it was love at first sight. It was about eight years ago, the visual effects and music industry veteran was working on a video for alternative metal band Deftones and first encountered Autodesk software at a participating post house. A recent project had the team creating tour visuals for international DJ, Skism. After using Maya to help create pristine elements such as Snakes wrapped around neon crosses, huge robotic structures, and pulsating skulls, the Rockstar team was able to move the entire project, including the 3D assets created in Maya, quickly and easily into Smoke to bring everything together and provide animations ready for the DJ to use live on tour

4K HFR Oklahoma! Restoration Premieres in Hollywood

The fully restored and digitally mastered 4K high frame rate version of the hit musical Oklahoma! premiered at the TCM Classic Film Festival on April 10 at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This historic screening of the 1955 Todd-AO classic is the first time a high bitrate and HFR DCP has been created and exhibited as part of the restoration of a feature film classic.

Filmworkers Celebrate Modern Southern Music for Belk

Matt Egan has directed Nashville star Hayden Panettiere in a new commercial for Belk that is part of the fashion brand’s Modern Southern Music campaign. Filmworkers provided post-production services for the glamorous commercial, produced by Coin-Operated Films, which captures the actress arriving on location at the newly-renovated Country Music Hall of Fame for an evening shoot.

John Was a Good Man

The TEDx Sydney conference on April 26 will feature a breakthrough film by Kate Kazokas and Lucy Adelaide. Titled John Was A Good Man, the short film features actors from across Australia including Jane Caro, Dr Karl, Paul McDermott, Matt Moran, Andrew O’Keefe, Turia Pitt, Jessica Tovey, Urthboy and Fred Nile. Each of the participants tells a short eulogy of their lives to date, using the third person and with video images of themselves being projected onto their own faces to heighten the sense of self-analysis.
