The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers is seeking proposals for technical papers for the SMPTE 2017 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition (SMPTE 2017), Oct. 23-26, 2017, in Hollywood, California. Proposed papers must be informational and address technical theory, research, innovations, applications, or practices specific to an evolving technology relevant to the media industry. Abstracts must be submitted online no later than May 15.
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers’ SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal has earned a Distinction Award from the New York Metro, Philadelphia Metro, Atlanta, and Rochester Chapters of the Society for Technical Communication. The American Film Institute released a statement today regarding award-winning Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, who will not attend this year’s Academy Award ceremonies because of President Donald Trump’s executive order banning Iranians from entering the country. Farhadi, who received a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for A Separation, is nominated again in the same category this year.
Event cinema has come a long way since its earliest days more than a decade ago. The challenge now is to push the boundaries of event cinema to find new content, new concepts that can attract and sustain even larger audiences. To that end, the Event Cinema Association’s annual day-long ECA Conference & Awards session will be held in London this Friday February 3 at the QE11 Centre in central London, near Parliament Square in Westminster. The conference, now in its fourth year is the only event of its kind in the world.
