The Event Cinema Association has announced the winners of the 4th ECA Awards, which took place last week at the QEII Centre in London. The ceremonies were sponsored by Encompass Digital Media and featured sales director Nigel Crow on stage with One Show presenter Nick Wallis. ECA managing director said, “The event was a great success and the quality of the nominees reminds the wider media industry and ourselves just how far the sector has progressed in a decade.”
Last week La La Land was released in EclairColor in the following German cinemas: Nuremberg’s Cinecitta’ Multiplexkino and Eiszeit-Kino in Berlin. Distributed in Germany by StudioCanal and directed by Damien Chazelle, the film stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

Sony Pictures Post Production Services has added a mix stage dedicated exclusively to IMAX. The new stage, which is equipped with a 24-fader Avid S6 mixing console, is the only dub stage on the West Coast that uses IMAX loudspeakers and meets specifications for mixing in its immersive IMAX 12.0 sound format. The room will be used to prepare 2D and 3D theatrical features and trailers for release to IMAX theaters worldwide.
Event cinema has come a long way since its earliest days more than a decade ago. The challenge now is to push the boundaries of event cinema to find new content, new concepts that can attract and sustain even larger audiences. To that end, the Event Cinema Association’s annual day-long ECA Conference & Awards session will be held in London this Friday February 3 at the QE11 Centre in central London, near Parliament Square in Westminster. The conference, now in its fourth year is the only event of its kind in the world. Ymagis Group today announced the conclusion of its acquisition of OpenSky’s theatrical content delivery activities dedicated to cinema exhibition, OpenSky Cinema, in accordance with the agreement signed November 30, 2016. All related business assets have been incorporated into a new entity named Open Sky Cinema SRL (Vicenza), which oversees the Ymagis Group’s portfolio of content services activities in Italy.
