Cineworld Buys Regal for Nearly $6 Billion

Cineworld, the U.K.’s largest cinema operator, has acquired Regal, one of the largest theatre circuits in the U.S., for a reported $5.9 billion. The deal would create the world’s second-largest movie theater owner and enable Cineworld to better compete with AMC Entertainment, which is owned by the Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda. The Cineworld-Regal combination would create a company with more than 9,500 screens in 10 countries.

MoviePass Lowers Price to $6.95 Per Month

Just in time for Christmas, MoviePass is offering a one-year subscription plan for a flat fee of $89.95 and a $6.55 processing fee. Existing MoviePass customers will receive 25 percent savings from their current $9.95 per month plan if they subscribe to the new one year MoviePass subscription plan.The one-year subscription plan will be available only for a limited time.

MoviePass Names Bernadette McCabe SVP of Exhibitor Relations

MoviePass has expanded its leadership team and named Bernadette McCabe as senior vice president of exhibitor relations. McCabe, a proven industry veteran and former Screenvision Media executive with more than 16 years of experience, will be responsible for growing and developing the company’s relationships with movie theater exhibitors. She will spearhead strategic initiatives across marketing and business development, provide financial insights for how theaters can glean the most value from MoviePass data and analytics, and evaluate opportunities to increase collaboration between theaters and movie studios.

Ymagis Group Reports Growth for Third Quarter 2017

Ymagis Group today reported its consolidated financial results for the third quarter 2017 and first nine months of the 2017 fiscal year, ending September 30. Ymagis Group’s activities resumed growth, with the consolidated financial results for Q3 2017 slightly up at €43.2 million, for an increase of +2.1 percent, driven by the group’s services activities.

MoviePass Reaches 600,000 Subscribers

MoviePass surpassed the mark of 600,000 paying monthly subscribers as of October 18, up from approximately 20,000 as of August 14, the day before MoviePass announced its new $9.95 per month subscription price. The continued growth trajectory exceeded MoviePass’ initial projections, and now MoviePass projects that it will acquire at least 3.1 million additional paying subscribers by next August, exceeding its previous estimate of 2.5 million subscribers.

Fandango Acquires MovieTickets

Fandango announced today it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire MovieTickets.com, the online movie ticket service for moviegoers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Latin America. MovieTickets.com will join brands Fandango, Flixster, Ingresso and Fandango Latin America to create a suite of movie ticketing properties, serving hundreds of millions of moviegoers worldwide. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions and is anticipated to close in the fourth quarter this year.
