Milwaukee Wants Historic Theatre Restored

The City of Milwaukee wants someone to restore the historic Villa/Ritz Theatre and re-open the now vacant building as an entertainment venue. “It is our hope that the movie theatre will be a catalytic development,” said Angelique Sharpe, of Havenwoods Neighborhood Partnership, which manages the Villard Avenue Business Improvement District. “We would like to see it continue on with its long tradition of being able to house all kinds of entertainment such as cinema and film, performance, comedy, music, and dance.”

NCM Unveils New Data Platform, Partners

The new data, insights, and analytics platform uses the company’s comprehensive knowledge and extensive data about moviegoer behavior to connect brands with custom audiences in theatres as well as on digital screens before and after attending movies. The announcement was made today by Scott Felenstein, NCM’s president, sales, marketing and partnerships, during the company’s upfront presentation for advertisers at Lincoln Center's Walter Reade Theater in New York City.

PVR and INOX to Merge

India’s two largest move theatre chains – PVR and INOX – have announced that they plan to merge to form one giant entertainment company. Both PVR and INOX are public listed companies engaged in cinema exhibition, related food and beverages and allied activities. "The proposed amalgamation would be in the best interest of the transferee company and the transferor company and their respective shareholders, employees, creditors, and other stakeholders," the companies said in filing the merger plan.

Lotus Cinemas Set to Open

Lotus Cinemas, an international and independent film theatre, is set to open on March 25 at Parkside Town Commons in Cary, about 18 miles from Durham, North Carolina. The theatre is a new concept and is the brainchild of Paragon Theatres’ co-CEOs Michael Whalen and Michael Wilson.

PVR Cinemas Opens Third Jalandhar, Punjab Multiplex

PVR Cinemas has opened its third multiplex in Jalandhar, Punjab. Strengthening PVR's footprints across key markets, the new six-screen property is equipped with laser projection, the first in the city. The erstwhile single screen Friends cinema, a popular destination for city residents has been revamped with a modern cinematic experience to cater to the discerning audience in the city. With this launch, PVR augments its presence in Jalandhar with 15 screens in three properties.
