Riding a Virtual Subway

Break+Enter, a Nice Shoes company, served as a key visual effects provider on the second season of Russian Doll, the Emmy Award-winning Netflix series starring Natasha Lyonne, and co-created by Lyonne, Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler. The studio delivered nearly 150 visual effects shots for the eight-episode season. Most notably, Break+Enter, led by VFX supervisor Gabe Regentin, teamed with Lyonne, her production team, cinematographer Ula Pontikos and LED lighting specialist 4Wall Entertainment to recreate a large portion of the New York subway system using groundbreaking virtual production technology.

Re-recording mixer James Wichall fell into the audio business almost by chance while he was working in the legal department at UK-based Ragdoll production company, the team behind the popular Teletubbies children’s television program. It was there that he was first introduced to the possibilities of sound design.

Thor: Love and Thunder Opening in ScreenX

Marvel Studios Thor: Love and Thunder will debut in CJ 4DPlex’s immersive 270-degree panoramic ScreenX format in theatres worldwide beginning July 6, followed by the United States on July 8. By expanding specially selected film sequences onto the left and right-side walls of the auditorium, ScreenX surrounds and transports moviegoers into the otherworldly action of the film.

Elvis Leads Steady Box Office Gains

Signs of adult audiences returning continued this week, according to the London-based analytics firm Gower Street, as Baz Luhrmann’s with a $31.2 million opening Elvis prevented Top Gun: Maverick from flying back into the top spot on the Domestic chart. The biopic delivered $51.2 million globally from 52 launch markets. It scored number one in Luhrmann’s home-market, Australia ($4.7 million including previews), as well as in the UK/Ireland ($4.9 million), Italy ($925,000), Netherlands ($849,000), and New Zealand ($662,000).
