Marcus Theatres' Magical Movie Rewards loyalty program has signed its five millionth member. The company says the milestone is a celebration of human reconnection as moviegoers continue to head back into theatres to experience the excitement of seeing movies on the big screen.
Marcus Theatres has extended its nationwide managed service agreement with Strong Technical Services into 2023, it was announced today. These managed services will include 24/7/365 monitoring, technical support, and maintenance on all projection and audio equipment across more than 1,000 screens.
Marcus Theatres today announced its plan to begin re-opening theatres, which will begin June 19. As part of the initial reopening experience, Marcus Theatres is introducing its Movie STAR approach, which incorporates new health and safety measures and is in alignment with Centers for Disease Control guidelines. Everyone can be a Movie STAR and play a role in creating a safe environment with social distancing (S); Thorough cleaning (T); App and website ordering of tickets, food and concessions for no-to-low contact interactions (A); and respecting each other by following these new protocols (R). Policies and guidelines will continue to evolve with time and will be assessed and updated on an ongoing basis.
Marcus Theatres has added a drive-in movie theatre to its Twin Creek Cinema in Bellevue, Nebraska. Strong Technical Services worked with Marcus to develop the concept. Additional locations are under consideration.
Marcus Theatres, the fifth-largest theatre chain in the United States, has opened the Midwest’s first 4DX location at the Gurnee Mills Cinema in Gurnee, Illinois. The first movie to take full advantage of the 4DX technology will be Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea, December 11, which will enable moviegoers to experience the story of Moby Dick with 4DX special effects, including motion, vibration, water, wind, lighting and scents.

CJ 4DPlex has entered into an agreement with Marcus Theatres, the fifth-largest theatre chain in the United States, to bring 4DX technology to the Chicago market for the first time. After having its U.S. debut in Los Angeles last year, and announcing plans to be available in two New York theatres later this year, this new relationship paves the way for the immersive five-sense cinematic experience to its third U.S. market.
