HPA Calls for Submissions for Annual Engineering Excellence Awards

The Hollywood Professional Association has called for submissions for the HPA Engineering Excellence Awards. Entries will be accepted until June 18. Celebrating the creative brilliance and ingenuity of the HPA community since 2006, the HPA Awards are sought after recognition by artists, companies, and technologists. In 2021, the HPA Awards gala will take place as an in person and online event in mid-November. The date, as well as further details, will be announced shortly.

HPA Launches HPA ALL to Foster Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

Hollywood Professional Association has announced the launch of HPA ALL, a foundational new program that will drive HPA-led initiatives for outreach, education, and networking focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion within the industry. Under the leadership of ALL co-chairs and HPA board members Kari Grubin and Renard Jenkins, HPA ALL is designed to highlight career pathways and create opportunities for contributions by and visibility for underrepresented groups, which in turn, strengthens the media & entertainment community.

Imaging Science Focus of Next PNYA Post Break

Color scientists Matthew Tomlinson and Joachim Zell will explain what imaging science is and describe its role in each aspect of production, from the set to the screen. Erik Messerschmidt Wins Top ASC Prize for Mank

The American Society of Cinematographers presented its annual awards during a virtual ceremony on Sunday, with Erik Messerschmidt, ASC claiming the top prize in feature film for Mank. The 35th ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards also honored Aurélien Marra for Two of Us in the Spotlight Award category, and Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw for the documentary The Truffle Hunters.

Motion Picture Sound Editors Present the 68th Annual Golden Reel Awards

The Motion Picture Sound Editors association presented the 68th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards Friday evening, April 16, at a virtual, international ceremony. Golden Reel Awards recognizing outstanding achievement in sound editing were presented in 22 categories encompassing feature films, long-form and short-form television, animation, documentaries, games, special venue, and other media.

SMPTE Hollywood Explores The Ripple Effect

SMPTE Hollywood will offer a glimpse into moviemaking in a post-COVID-19 world as it hosts the production team behind The Ripple Effect at its virtual meeting scheduled for April 22nd at 6:00 p.m. PDT on Zoom. Produced through The Entertainment Technology Center at the University of Southern California, The Ripple Effect is a live-action, sci-fi short film designed to test cutting edge virtual production technologies and remote workflow solutions.

NYWIFT Names Winners of Loreen Arbus Disability Awareness Grants

New York Women in Film & Television has named Lisa Denker the winner of the Loreen Arbus Disability Awareness Grant for her documentary feature Still Judy. The first-ever Honorable Mention award was given to Alyscia Cunningham for her documentary feature I Am More Than My Hair. The film completion grant, now in its 14th year, is provided through the generosity of longtime disability rights advocate Loreen Arbus and awards $7,500 to a woman filmmaker for a film on physical or developmental disability issues; the Honorable Mention winner receives $1,500.
