SMPTE Offering Course on Understanding the Digital Cinema Package

Now, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers is offering a virtual course entitled Understanding the Digital Cinema Package for members and non-members. With this course, professionals working in media production, distribution, or mastering can learn how to leverage the SMPTE Digital Cinema Package to enable innovation, automation, and cost savings.

Voice Actors Chosen to Host 68th Annual MPSE Awards Show

New York Women in Film & Television culminates its month-long recognition of Women’s History with a weekend of screenings celebrating female creators in film, television, and media. NYWIFT will screen IFC Films’ critically acclaimed Farewell Amor March 26-27 as part of its annual Support Women Artists Now Day celebration in partnership with SAG-AFTRA, FF2 Media, Women in the Arts & Media Coalition, HerFlix, In Creative Company, The Gotham, African American Women in Cinema, and Women Make Movies, followed by a talkback with filmmaker Ekwa Msangi on Saturday, March 27 at 12 p.m. EDT. Then the 41st Annual NYWIFT Muse Awards celebrating women of vision and achievement will have its educational broadcast on CUNY TV on Sunday, March 28 at 8 p.m. EdT.

Image Nation Abu Dhabi Launches Cultural Exchange with Israel Film Fund

Image Nation Abu Dhabi has launched a series of webinars in partnership with the Israel Film Fund to foster the exchange of cultural content and support filmmakers in the two countries. The webinar series, titled Film Exchange: Abu Dhabi - Israel, will focus on critical areas within production, talent development and filming in both Abu Dhabi and Israel as a way to encourage collaboration and co-productions between Image Nation and the IFF.

SMPTE Hollywood Virtual Meeting to Discuss TikTok

At its March virtual meeting, SMPTE Hollywood will introduce media technologies to TikTok, the short-form social video app where memes (and stars) are born. A panel of experts will explain how TikTok became a worldwide phenomenon with more than a billion active monthly users, and how the 15- to 60-second videos it hosts reach audiences far greater than any cable or streaming service with much less investment in infrastructure and execution.

ASC Announces 2021 Nominees

The American Society of Cinematographers has announced its nominees for feature film, documentary and television cinematography, representing the organization’s picks for the most compelling visual filmmaking over the past 14 months. Winners will be named during the 35th ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards on April 18. The virtual ceremony will be live streamed via American Society of Cinematographers Facebook page at 12:30 pm PDT from the historic ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood.
