Sony Pictures Post Production Services has added a mix stage dedicated exclusively to IMAX. The new stage, which is equipped with a 24-fader Avid S6 mixing console, is the only dub stage on the West Coast that uses IMAX loudspeakers and meets specifications for mixing in its immersive IMAX 12.0 sound format. The room will be used to prepare 2D and 3D theatrical features and trailers for release to IMAX theaters worldwide.
Event cinema has come a long way since its earliest days more than a decade ago. The challenge now is to push the boundaries of event cinema to find new content, new concepts that can attract and sustain even larger audiences. To that end, the Event Cinema Association’s annual day-long ECA Conference & Awards session will be held in London this Friday February 3 at the QE11 Centre in central London, near Parliament Square in Westminster. The conference, now in its fourth year is the only event of its kind in the world. Ymagis Group today announced the EclairColor release of Liongate’s La La Land, which opens in cinemas across France January 25. Distributed by SND - M6 Group and directed by Damien Chazelle, La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, will be available exclusively in EclairColor in the following cinemas: Gaumont Champs-Elysées (Paris, 8th arrondissement), Pathé Wepler (Paris, 18th arrondissement), Les Confluences (Varenne-sur-Seine) and Le Sirius (Le Havre).
Ymagis Group today announced the conclusion of its acquisition of OpenSky’s theatrical content delivery activities dedicated to cinema exhibition, OpenSky Cinema, in accordance with the agreement signed November 30, 2016. All related business assets have been incorporated into a new entity named Open Sky Cinema SRL (Vicenza), which oversees the Ymagis Group’s portfolio of content services activities in Italy.
AMC Theatres and Dolby Laboratories have opened the 50th Dolby Cinema at AMC at AMC Rosedale 14 in Roseville, Minnesota. “Reaching the major milestone of 50 Dolby Cinema at AMC locations is a direct result of the outstanding reaction we have received from moviegoers nationwide,” said Doug Darrow, senior vice president, cinema business group, Dolby Laboratories. “Our fast-paced growth is a testament to the shared commitment by Dolby and AMC to deliver movie lovers a best-in-class entertainment experience.”
The Guitammer Company added more than 11,300 new ButtKicker equipped cinema seats for 57 new auditoriums in 2016, a 475 percent increase from 2015. Worldwide there are now more than 20,000 ButtKicker enabled seats in over 105 cinema auditoriums.
CJ CGV, operator of 2,821 screens at 368 locations in seven countries, has named Paul Richardson as the first chief operating officer of CJ CGV Americas. The move comes as the company looks to increase its presence in the U.S. marketplace.
Screenvision Media has signed long-term agreements totaling 1,790 screens across 170 theatres with eleven key exhibitors: National Amusements, Premiere Cinemas, Studio Movie Grill, Frank Theatres, Cinépolis, Classic Cinemas, Emagine Entertainment, Zyacorp Entertainment’s Cinemagic Stadium Theatres, Zurich Cinemas, CineLux Theatres and Cinema Café.
Cinépolis is transforming its existing Cinépolis Parsippany theatre, located in the heart of Parsippany, New Jersey, into a Cinépolis Luxury Cinema, the exhibitor’s upscale movie-going concept. Among the first theatres to be acquired during Cinépolis USA’s recent expansion into the Northeast, the forthcoming 12-screen Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas Parsippany marks the exhibitor’s first luxury theatre in the region. Its introduction serves as the sixth theatre to join Cinépolis USA’s existing portfolio of dedicated luxury cinemas located in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, California.
