GDC Technology Limited has unveiled two built-in audio processing features of its SR-1000 integrated media block. Users of SR-1000 now have the option to bring immersive audio experience to their screens with an upgrade to 16-channel DTS:X immersive sound. Additionally, a new built-in 16-channel cinema audio processor is made available to replace an external cinema audio processor for the 16-channel DTS:X setup.
According to industry statistics, premium large format screen installations have seen an increase of almost 19 percent year over year. They set a record in 2019, when 734 screens were installed, a 65 percent increase over 2018. As theatres slowly reopen worldwide following lockdowns due to COVID-19, the pace of adoption is expected to resume. Owned by the China Film Group and Huaxia Film Distribution, Cinity uses premium large format laser projection, immersive sound, and ultra-high frame rate capability. Today, with 57 installations and an almost equal number on tap in cities across China, Cinity enjoys cooperative agreements with many major Hollywood and Chinese studios. The system can be viewed at the Harmony Gold Preview House in West Hollywood, where filmmakers can also screen their latest projects at the industry’s highest frame rate.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cinemovida in Perpignan, France was thinking about the future of cinema and wanted the latest in theatre innovation ready for new and returning patrons. The end result is a 60-seat MX4D theatre from MediaMation.
The total revenues generated by the global cinema industry this year are set to only reach half of 2019’s pre-COVID revenues according to Omdia’s latest Cross Sector Windows report. Vista has launched the first version of Vista Cloud, a new generation of scalable cloud-hosted cinema software, fully managed by Vista. The platform will initially be available to select customers, before being made more widely available in 2022. The company says that Vista Cloud signifies a major evolution of Vista’s software, with the full suite of Vista functionality being transformed into Vista Cloud.
PVR Cinemas has installed Cinionic’s Giant Screen technology in its flagship site in Priya, India. The move comes as part of an urban rehabilitation initiative by PVR of its heritage location providing audiences thrilling cinematic experiences combined with the latest in premium cinema amenities and innovation. Priya’s new premium P[XL] auditorium powered by CGS, has a 19-meter (62-foot) giant screen, and features the latest laser projection. The PVR P[XL] at Priya is the first powered by CGS cinema in India.
D-Box Technologies and Ecco Cine Supply and Service are installing D-Box haptic seats and recliners, at five different locations in Germany. The installations should be completed by the end of September.
