Vista Group Promotes Lewthwaite and Liebmann

Vista Group International has announced the appointment of two senior executives into new roles, effective July 1. Sarah Lewthwaite has been promoted to chief executive of Movio, the group’s data driven movie marketing company. At the same time, Movio chief operating officer, Matthew Liebmann, will move into the newly created role of chief innovation and data officer for Vista Group, based in Auckland.

The Colonie Adds Zach Day to its Staff

Award-winning post-production studio The Colonie has hired Zach Day as producer/new business development. Day brings more than fifteen years of ad agency experience, most recently as a senior producer at Leo Burnett. In his new role, he will focus on developing business and forging agency alliances beyond the studio’s base in Chicago.

Supporting Minority Filmmakers

This summer, hundreds of professional filmmakers in New York City will join forces to create six short films as part of the Women’s Weekend Film Challenge. A grassroots initiative founded in 2017 by filmmakers Katrina Medoff and Tracy Sayre, WWFC aims to address the lack of women and nonbinary people behind the camera and on screen through a variety of programs, including its signature film challenge.

Mary Coleman Named Chief Creative Officer of Locksmith Animation

Mary Coleman has been named chief creative officer of the London computer-generation animation studio Locksmith Animation. Coleman joins LSA from Pixar Animation Studios, where she was head of creative development. Locksmith CEO Natalie Fischer announced the news today and confirmed that Coleman officially will join the studio in July.

Since the dawn of color cinema, there has always been a demand for a skilled and sympathetic person to guide color throughout a production. Back then, the color timer worked to the instructions of the cinematographer, looking essentially to achieve consistency: dramatic color shifts using irreversible wet chemistry were rarely undertaken. But while the director and cinematographer may be household names, the colorist may still go unheralded outside a small community. To correct this neglect of a vital talent in the overall creative team, last year we created the FilmLight Color Awards.

Post Professionals Celebrate the Pivotal 1990s

More than 350 post-production professionals assembled last month at The Sunset Room in Hollywood to reconnect with former colleagues and celebrate the 1990s, a decade in which the industry they love changed forever. Held under the auspices of the 90s Los Angeles Post Production Veterans Facebook group, the event drew editors, colorists, sound mixers, visual effects artists, engineers, sales reps, executives and others who manned the frontlines as facilities negotiated monumental shifts in technology, workflows and business models.
