This Sunday, movie fans around the world will turn their attention to the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to see who the winners of the 88th Academy Awards will be. Meanwhile, the people who run a new website are betting they already know. Billing themselves as the “newest online source for unbiased gambling, reviews and information,” OnlineGambling.lv has posted odds on what to expect for the 2016 Oscars. “The Oscars continue to captivate fans unlike the other awards shows,” said OnlineGambling.lv spokesman Allan Kingsley Jones. “Movies elicit strong emotions that entice fan interaction throughout the nation and across the world.” Here are their choices:

4DX Success in Japan Continues

After initially being released in November 2015, the Japanese animation film Girls und Panzer: The Film sky-rocketed from 24th to 8th in the national box office rankings this month when it was released in 4DX. The average occupancy rate during the films first weekend in 4DX hit 97 percent at the 27 4DX screens it was available. The film is set to be screened at all 33 4DX screens in Japan this March.

With 20 years’ experience in the Argentinean market, Village Cines currently has eight complexes with a total of 79 screens across the country and has recently completed its final phase of its digital roll out with Christie Solaria Series projectors.

Ymagis Installs 4K Projection in Megarama Cinemas

Ymagis Group and French multiplex chain Megarama today announced the installation of Barco DP4K-60L 4K laser projection systems and Dolby Atmos sound technology in three new multiplexes: in France, at the Megarama Bordeaux, and at Morocco’s Megarama Casablanca and Megarama Marrakech. A similar agreement was signed last November for Megarama’s Villeneuve-La-Garenne site near Paris.

Sanad Films Win Big at the Berlin

Three Arab films supported by Sanad, the development and post-production fund of twofour54, have won awards at the 66th annual Berlin International Film Festival held this month in Germany. Mohamed Ben Attia, director of Inhebbek Hedi (Hedi), supported by Sanad in development and post-production, received the Best First Feature Award (50,000 euros) during the official closing ceremony, and the film’s lead actor Majd Mastour received the Silver Bear for Best Actor as part of the official competition awards.

Gravitas, Incognito Enter Licensing Agreement

Gravitas Ventures and Incognito Pictures have entered into a licensing agreement for North American distribution. Incognito Pictures has established a Film Finishing Fund for independent films and documentaries in need of completion and distribution. For films that meet the requirements, Incognito will acquire and complete the projects and in turn, Gravitas will release these films in theaters and/or VOD.

UFO Moviez Launches Nova Cinemas

UFO Moviez India has launched a franchise brand called Nova Cinemas under its subsidiary Valuable Digital Screens Private Limited. With this asset light initiative, VDSPL aims to recreate the screen growth in non-metro regions across India. Under Nova Cinemas, VDSPL will encourage local entrepreneurs to own and operate Nova branded theatres in various parts of the country.

Vue Entertainment Implements Movio Cinemaplatform

Movio has signed Vue Entertainment for its Movio Cinemaplatform. Vue is part of Vue International, one of the largest cinema groups outside the United States. Implementation will begin in February at all Vue cinema locations in England and Ireland. Sarah Lewthwaite, Movio’s strategic partnerships director for the EMEA Region, and Dominic Rowell, commercial director at Vue, made the announcement.

Call for Papers for SMPTE 2016

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers is seeking proposals for technical papers for the SMPTE 2016 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition October 24-28 in Hollywood, California. The proposed papers must be informational and address technical theory, research, innovations, applications, or practices specific to any of the evolving technologies associated with the media technology industry. Initial abstracts must be submitted online no later than April 22.
