Ymagis Group today reported that the Bpifrance Assurance Export, acting on behalf of the French State, has approved an overall investment budget of €6 million to help accelerate the development of the EclairColor high dynamic range system in the United States and Canada.

The facility built technically advanced solutions that supported the creative team through their interplanetary production from dailies to color grade.
Wonder Wheel, from Amazon Studios, reunites Allen with veteran cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, who was behind the camera for Allen’s Café Society, where his cinematography earned the biggest raves from critics reviewing the film. The movie also reunites colorist Anthony Raffaele of Technicolor PostWorks New York and DIT Simone d’Arcangelo.
MTI Film recently provided final post-production services for The Story of Us with Morgan Freeman, a six-part documentary series on National Geographic. The facility handled editorial conforming and color grading for the series in which the veteran actor travels the globe “in search of an answer to one fundamental question for humanity: what are the common forces that bind us together?”
Post-production finishing for season six of TNT’s police drama Major Crimes is currently underway at MTI Film, continuing a relationship that began with the show’s debut in 2012. The facility faces tight deadlines and significant technical and creative hurdles in delivering each of 13 episodes included in the current season.
Making a film for the first time is a challenge enough in itself, but post-production can sometimes be even more daunting. Aspiring filmmaker Michael Thibault said, “Strangely, all the things we were warned about – actors, scheduling, permits, etc – weren’t a problem at all. But when it came to post-production, it was a complete nightmare until we brought the show to AlphaDogs. We tried to get by cheap and skip using a professional post house, only to find out these freelance colorists and audio mixers have no clue as to what they are doing.”
Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé, the largest cinema chain operator in France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, has installed Dolby Cinema at Pathé Massy, south of Paris, and will open today. This marks the first Dolby Cinema in France, with Pathé Vaise in Lyon and Pathé Docks 76 in Rouen opening later this year.
Director Xavier Gens’ horror film Cold Skin premiered today in ÉclairColor HDR at Cines Verdi in Barcelona. The film is being distributed by Diamond Film España. The screening at Cines Verdi was a sneak preview that followed an ÉclairColor high dynamic range technology presentation and a cocktail reception. Cines Verdi, a nine-screen complex, is the first cinema in Spain to incorporate ÉclairColor. Éclair’s exhibitor services company CinemaNext/Proyecson installed the system.
Veteran colorist Michael Smollin has joined Fancy Film, the independent post-production facility based in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake neighborhood. Smollin, whose credits span features, episodics, reality series and documentaries, will serve as the facility’s senior colorist for theatrical and television projects.
