Cinemark has signed a three-year agreement to equip its theatres throughout North America, Central America and South America with Harman cinema audio solutions. Following an extensive review process that involved testing six demo systems from different manufacturers, Cinemark chose Harman’s JBL speakers and Crown amplifiers for their superior sound quality and reliable operation.

Ellen Fine, CCE (Canada Cinema Editor) is the supervising editor and consulting producer on Backstage. The series is produced by Fresh TV and distributed by DHX. It currently airs on the Family Channel in Canada and on the Disney Channel in the US and worldwide.

Sony is expanding its FS Series Super 35mm professional family with the addition of the FS7 II camcorder, which adds advanced features including Electronic Variable ND technology, a lever lock type E-mount, and a new mechanical design for faster and easier set-up. The new FS7 II camcorder is designed for long-form shooting and production applications, especially documentaries and independent filmmaking.

ArcLight Chooses Meyer Sound

ArcLight Cinemas has selected Meyer Sound cinema audio systems for three screens at new upscale multiplex theaters in Chicago, Illinois; Bethesda, Maryland; and Santa Monica, California. A fourth Meyer Sound system was installed earlier at ArcLight Cinemas’ La Jolla, California location.

Targeted at the international filmmaking community, Qube Wire offers users a secure, patent-pending service to issue key delivery messages and digitally transport DCPs to theatres globally, having completed a highly successful beta-testing phase in India this year. Now in its initial launch, the service offers a simple and secure online way of issuing KDMs to cinemas worldwide. This will be followed by a commercial launch in early 2017 that will enable the global distribution of DCPs with a unique approach to last-mile delivery.

Your Name Being Considered for Oscar

The Japanese film Your Name has made the official Oscar consideration list in the Best Animated Feature category. The film will be vying for one of five nomination spots in its category that will be voted on for the 89th annual Academy Awards. Funimation Films acquired North American distributions rights to Your Name earlier this year from Toho Co. in Japan
