Re-Recording Mixers Pederson, Leahy Join Sony Pictures

Continuing to grow its sound department, Sony Pictures Post Production Services has added award-winning re-recording mixers Steve Pederson and Daniel J. Leahy to its creative staff. Pederson and Leahy have worked as a team on a number of motion picture projects, including the Antoine Fuqua film The Equalizer, which, as independents, they mixed on Sony Pictures’ Cary Grant Stage last year. They are currently mixing Fuqua’s latest film, Southpaw on the Sony lot. Upcoming projects include HBO’s True Detective and Fuqua’s remake of The Magnificent Seven.

Joseph Magee Supervised Pitch Perfect 2 Mix

On May 15, Pitch Perfect 2 starring Anna Kendrick opened in theaters nationwide grossing more than $100 million in just two weeks. At the heart of the film’s success is its musical score. Supervising music mixer Joseph Magee, whose credits include the original Pitch Perfect, Saving Mr. Banks, High Fidelity and Into the Wild, recorded and mixed all of the a capella vocal performances using Harman’s JBL M2 Master Reference Monitors in a specially-built studio on location in Baton Rouge.

France's Film Factory Adds Second Meyer Sound Cinema System

The French film post-production company Film Factory has added an Acheron-based loudspeaker system to its newest mixing stage in the Paris suburb of Clichy. This is the second Meyer Sound system for Film Factory, one of France’s leading providers of film post-production services, and the 16th French post-production room to have adopted Meyer Sound.

Veteran Re-Recording Mixer Kevin O’Connell Comes Home to Sony Pictures

Veteran re-recording mixer Kevin O’Connell has returned to Sony Pictures Post Production Services. A 20-time Academy Award-nominee, O’Connell has already completed four projects at Sony, The Boy Next Door, Self/less, No Good Deed and Pitch Perfect 2. He was previously on staff at the studio from 1993 to 2008 with credits including Pearl Harbor, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Memoirs of a Geisha and Transformers, all of which led to Oscar nominations for sound.

Dolby Delivers Atmos Update

In a technology tour that covered several U.S. cities last week, Dolby executives provided an overview on the evolution of its Atmos sound platform in both professional and home markets. Among the highlights was the news that Dolby has developed two new technologies for home theatres and this year will unveil the first loudspeaker to carry the Dolby logo.
