IBC2019 Opens Call for Technical Papers
The International Broadcasting Convention is now accepting submissions of technical papers for its annual conference, which is being held this September in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Following an increase in female speakers at the conference in 2018, up from 14 percent in 2017 to 37 percent, IBC is encouraging applications from a globally diverse audience.

The not-for-profit independent trade organization Cinema Technology Community recently announced the recipients of its awards at its annual awards ceremony in London.
Cynthia López to Replace Terry Lawler as NYWIFT Executive Director
New York Women in Film & Television has named Cynthia López, an Emmy, Peabody and duPont-Columbia Award-winning media strategist, and former commissioner of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, as its new executive director. López will succeed Terry Lawler, who concludes a remarkable 21-year tenure, effective January 1. NYWIFT president, Simone Pero made the announcement on behalf of the organization’s 18-member board of directors.
MPSE to Honor Antoine Fuqua with Filmmaker Award
The Motion Picture Sound Editor will honor Antoine Fuqua with its annual Filmmaker Award. The director of such films as The Equalizer (1 & 2), The Magnificent Seven, Southpaw and Training Day, is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to the art of cinema. He will receive the award at the 66th MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony February 17th in Los Angeles.

The Society of Camera Operators will present Lifetime Achievement Awards to Governors Award recipient, Jane Fonda and President’s Award recipient, Harrison Ford on January 26, 2019 at the Lowes Hollywood hotel. The society is presenting the Lifetime Achievement awards for their extraordinary body of work and collaboration and commitment to the art and craft of camera operating.
Free Solo Leads Documentary Award Nominees
The Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association have announced the nominees for the third annual Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards. The winners will be presented their awards at a gala event November 10 at BRIC in Brooklyn, New York. The film Free Solo leads this year with six nominations and one honor, including Best Documentary, Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi for Best Directors, Best Sports Documentary, Most Innovative Documentary, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and a Most Compelling Living Subject of a Documentary honor for Alex Honnold.
OGC, Khronos Group Work to Improve Geospatial and 3D Interoperability
The Open Geospatial Consortium and the Khronos Group are joining forces to advance open geospatial standards related to the fields of augmented and virtual reality, distributed simulation, and 3D content services. As part of the liaison, and through collaborative participation in OGC and Khronos initiatives, the two organizations will work jointly to develop use cases and requirements for open geospatial standards concerning 3D, virtual and augmented reality APIs, and related graphical representations.
SMPTE Hollywood Explores Diversity in STEM Employment
The Hollywood Section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television will examine the entertainment industry’s need for greater diversity in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) talent at its monthly meeting October 11, in Hollywood.
