FilmLight Color Awards Entries Open May 1

Following a hugely successful debut in 2021, preparations are already underway for the FilmLight Color Awards 2022. This year’s awards, which will again be presented at EnergaCamerImage in November, include a new category celebrating the work of colorists on lower budget, independent and international features. Colorists, production companies and facilities are invited to put forward their nominations when entries open on May 1, with a final deadline for submissions on July 31.

The Global Connections for Women Foundation honored New York Women in Film & Television executive director Cynthia López last weekend as one of its Top 100 Women in the World. In doing so, the foundation continued its tradition to recognize women’s accomplishments in exclusive settings that allow them to celebrate equity, diversity, and inclusion. This year’s theme was “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.”

Trusted Partner Network Expanding Programs

Cherokee Nation Partnering with Native American Media Alliance

The Cherokee Nation Film Office is partnering with the Native American Media Alliance to help grow Native representation in film and television. The collaboration, which includes support from major industry allies and the Motion Picture Association, aims to expand diversity and inclusion throughout the entertainment industry, both in front and behind the cameras.

Zeiss, Women in Media Announce the Altitude Awards

Zeiss Cinema Americas and Women in Media celebrate Women’s History Month with the new Altitude Awards. These awards will honor the technical and artistic achievements of creatives who are making meaningful, well-crafted stories in the camera and lighting departments. The competition is open to professional and student WIM members working as cinematographers, camera operators and gaffers. First prize is $3000 cash and a full week's use of Zeiss Supreme Prime or Supreme Prime Radiance lenses.

MPSE Celebrates Award Winners at In-Person Reception

The Motion Picture Sound Editors association hosted a special in-person reception for winners in the 69th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards on March 26th at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. Sound Editors honored for their work in feature films, long-form and short-form television, animation and documentaries were presented with gold GRA statuettes and joined with colleagues in celebrating their shared craft.

Vista, IMAX Named Champions of UNIC’s Women’s Cinema Leadership Program

The International Union of Cinemas (UNIC), the European cinema trade grouping, has announced that IMAX Corporation and Vista Group take on the role of principal sponsors of its flagship Women’s Cinema Leadership Program, already in its fifth year. At the same time UNIC launched a call for mentors and mentees to take part in the next 2022-23 edition.

SMPTE Hollywood Session to Explore Importance of IMF

SMPTE Names New Leadership Team

SMPTE, the global home of media professionals, technologists, and engineers, today introduced the board officers, regional governors, and governors-at-large serving terms on the SMPTE Board of Governors in 2022, as well as the standards, education, and membership directors appointed to serve in 2022. This leadership group will welcome SMPTE's next executive director, continue to reimagine how professionals access engineering documents and articles, and guide the Society in providing ongoing value and service to the industry.
