UNIC Stands with Ukranian Exhibitors and with the Ukranian People

The Union Internationale des Cinémas/International Union of Cinemas, the trade body representing the interests of cinema operators across 39 European territories, has today issued a statement expressing its solidarity not just with Ukrainian exhibitors but also the Ukrainian people as they look to repel the attack on their country by Russian forces. The statement, issued on behalf of UNIC’s board of directors, reads as follows:

The European Cinema trade group the International Union of Cinemas today announced that Imax Corporation and Vista Group take on the role of principal sponsors of its flagship Women’s Cinema Leadership Programme, already in its fifth year. At the same time UNIC launched a call for mentors and mentees to take part in the next 2022-23 edition.

SMPTE Hollywood to Explore Cybersecurity in a Post-Pandemic World

Europeans Returning to Cinemas in Steadily Growing Numbers, UNIC Reports

The International Union of Cinemas (UNIC) today released preliminary 2021 box office and admissions estimates for the territories covered by the organization. While these figures are based on initial estimates, the overview provided by UNIC represents the first wide-ranging assessment of the performance of the European cinema sector in 2021. More detailed final data on the performance of each individual UNIC territory will be released later in spring 2022.

Ellen Kuras First Woman to Receive ASC Lifetime Achievement Award

The American Society of Cinematographers will recognize the work of four exceptional artists at its 36th Annual Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography. Ellen Kuras, ASC will receive the ASC Lifetime Achievement Award; she is the first woman ever to win the award. Peter Levy, ASC, ACS will be presented with the Career Achievement in Television Award, and John Lindley, ASC will be honored with the President’s Award. Panavision’s Dan Sasaki will receive the ASC’s inaugural Curtis Clark Technical Achievement Award, which will be given to an individual who has made significant technological contributions to the art and craft of cinematography. The awards will be presented on March 20 at the ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood.

American Society of Cinematographers Announces 2022 Award Nominees

The American Society of Cinematographers has named its annual Outstanding Achievement Award nominees in the categories of feature film, documentary, and television cinematography. Winners will be announced during the 36th ASC Awards on March 20. The ceremony will be a hybrid event, both in person and live streamed, at the historic ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood.
