POSitive Cinema Solutions has named Mark Waldman director of sales and marketing. A seasoned professional with experience in programming, corporate training, product management and sales in several vertical markets, Waldman joined the cinema industry in 2002, as the IT director, for Palace Cinemas, now Cinema City. Palace Cinemas had 22 sites and 180 screens with cinemas in Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia. In the nine years at Palace Cinemas, he oversaw the transition to digital cinema, as well as the development of a proprietary point of sales system.
QSC has announced a new digital cinema input/output) for their Q-SYS network and control platform for cinema. The company says the DCIO provides a simple and cost-effective way to route inputs from the projector integrated media block and alternate content sources to a Q-SYS Core over Q-LAN, QSC’s network technology.
Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé, the largest cinema chain operator in France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, has installed Dolby Cinema at Pathé Massy, south of Paris, and will open today. This marks the first Dolby Cinema in France, with Pathé Vaise in Lyon and Pathé Docks 76 in Rouen opening later this year.
The Guitammer Company and Moving Image Technologies have entered into a distribution agreement for sales of Guitammer’s ButtKicker Cinema System to select regional cinema exhibitors in North, Central and South America.
Director Xavier Gens’ horror film Cold Skin premiered today in ÉclairColor HDR at Cines Verdi in Barcelona. The film is being distributed by Diamond Film España. The screening at Cines Verdi was a sneak preview that followed an ÉclairColor high dynamic range technology presentation and a cocktail reception. Cines Verdi, a nine-screen complex, is the first cinema in Spain to incorporate ÉclairColor. Éclair’s exhibitor services company CinemaNext/Proyecson installed the system.
FLiK Cinemas has selected Destiny Seating and Volfoni to equip their new platinum-class multiplexes. Volfoni partnered with Destiny Seating to supply FLiK Cinemas with their 3D hardware systems. FLiK Cinemas has recently completed the first platinum-class and gold-class multiplex in the Gulf Cooperation region, which comprises the energy rich Gulf monarchies Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
CJ 4DPlex today announced that Kinepolis is set to open four 4DX theatres by the end of the year. Kinepolis will open 4DX theatres at its cinemas in Antwerp and Brussels (Belgium), Lomme (France) and Madrid (Spain). The first film that Kinepolis will show in 4DX is still to be confirmed.
The Association of Moving Image Archivists and Boston Light & Sound, in partnership with Martin Scorsese’s non-profit organization The Film Foundation, will host a three-day, intermediate-level film projection workshop offering expert-led training in the proper handling and presentation of 35mm film in theaters. The hands-on, educational event takes place October 30 through November 1 at Boston Light & Sound in Boston.
The One Network Alliance – a strategic partnership between Barco and in-theatre marketing pioneer Vision Media – will commercially debut its turnkey digital Lobby Experience at Cinemark’s Plano, Texas and Playa Vista, Los Angeles theatres this month. This will enable Cinemark to transform its cinema lobbies into immersive storytelling environments using digital content viewed on billboard-size displays.
