Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé, the largest cinema chain operator in France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, has installed Dolby Cinema at Pathé Massy, south of Paris, and will open today. This marks the first Dolby Cinema in France, with Pathé Vaise in Lyon and Pathé Docks 76 in Rouen opening later this year.

At a private launch event for the Dolby Cinema at Pathé Massy, there was an exclusive screening of La Promesse de l’aube. took place October 19, ahead of the film’s general release in France.

“We are thrilled to be expanding the Dolby Cinema footprint in Europe and to mark this milestone in France,” said Doug Darrow, senior vice president, cinema business group, Dolby Laboratories. “Dolby’s collaboration with Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé brings the Dolby Cinema experience with spectacular images and breathtaking sound to French moviegoers for the first time.”

“We are committed to delivering a total premium cinema offering to our customers across France,” said Martine Odillard, chairman of Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé. “We look forward to working with Dolby to bring this first-class experience to movie lovers.”

Dolby Cinema is a premium cinema offering for moviegoers, combining spectacular image and sound technologies with inspired design to deliver the total cinema experience, making every visit a completely captivating cinematic event. For the first time in Europe, premium, full recliner seating in black faux leather provides maximum luxury and comfort. And with every seat offering an optimized view of the screen, audiences will feel closer to the on-screen action.

Dolby Cinema features the Dolby Vision laser projection system, which uses optics and image processing to deliver high dynamic range with enhanced color technology and a contrast ratio that far exceeds that of any other image technology on the market today. The result is a richer, more detailed viewing experience that delivers strikingly vivid and realistic images and makes viewers feel like they are in the movie's world. The Dolby Vision laser projection system was co-developed with Christie, which supplies, installs, and services all the projector systems, which can only be experienced at Dolby Cinema locations. Dolby Cinema also includes Dolby Atmos sound technology, which moves audio around the theatre, even overhead, with amazing richness and depth.
