SMPTE New England Hosts Boot Camp

The New England Section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers will offer a free day-long New Technologies Boot Camp dedicated to fostering a better understanding of working with high resolution (UHD, 4K, and beyond), high-dynamic-range imaging, and higher frame rates; maintaining resolution independence on screens of every size; and leveraging internet protocol and ATSC 3.0 for more efficient movement of this media content. The boot camp will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on May 19 in the Terrace Room of the Holiday Inn in Dedham, Massachusetts.

Marking the start of Deaf Awareness Week May 2-8, Digital Theatre today announced plans to caption every single one of its productions in time for the 2017 academic year. The initiative is already underway with Shakespeare productions of As You Like It, King Lear, Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth and The Comedy of Errors due for imminent publishing with captions on Digital Theatre Plus as part of #ShakespeareLives – a series of events and activities marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.

Big Sky Film Festival Seeking Festival Producer

The Big Sky Documentary Film Institute is hiring a festival producer for the 2017 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival is the largest annual festival of non-fiction film in the American West. The festival draws an audience of 20,000 and film entries from every corner of the globe, with 150 non-fiction films screened and well over 100 visiting artists attending. This position will commence in July and go through early March 2017. The festival producer is responsible for planning, managing and overseeing the successful production of the annual 10-day festival happening in February.

Movies for Grownups: Not What You Think

Movies for Grownups is the name of an initiative that the AARP launched in 2002. It is also the name of one of the more interesting panel discussions that took place earlier this month during CinemaCon 2016 in Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas. Despite its title, the presentation was less about movies for older audiences than it was about the need for all exhibitors to truly understand their audience. As one of the speakers put it, exhibitors need to “become deeply engaged in the community.”

Ymagis Group to Acquire French Subtitling Company ST’501

Ymagis Group today announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the acquisition of French subtitling company ST’501, which specializes in live broadcast subtitling for the television industry. According to the terms of the agreement and subject to the fulfillment of conditions precedent, Ymagis Group would become the sole shareholder of ST’501.
