Bow Tie Cinemas has signed on to become National CineMedia’s newest affiliate. Beginning in the first quarter of 2017 Bow Tie’s 43 theaters with 271 screens in Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Virginia will become part of America’s Movie Network.
Ymagis Group today announced its upcoming line-up of feature films available in EclairColor and the equipping of 14 EclairColor auditoriums in 11 cinemas in France. Following Aquarius, Brice 3, Iris and Voyage au Groenland, the following films are scheduled to be released in EclairColor in the first half of 2017: Olivier Assayas’ Personal Shopper (Les Films du Losange/CG Cinéma/), Dalida by Liza Azuelos (Pathé Films/Pathé Distribution), Serge Hazavanicius’ Tout là-haut (Rouge International/UGC Distribution), Très intime conviction by Claude Lelouch (Les Films 13) and Message from the King by Fabrice Du Welz (Entertainment One/The Jokers).
Christie has introduced the CP2308-C, which it calls a high value Xenon projector, based on a powerful new electronics platform. The new projector was unveiled this week at CineAsia 2016 in Hong Kong.
Dolby Laboratories today announced the company has exceeded major milestones, including the installation of 2,000 Dolby Atmos enabled cinema screens and the release of 500 movie titles mixed in Dolby Atmos. Since debuting in 2012 with Disney•Pixar’s Brave, Dolby Atmos has paved a new course for creative storytelling, transforming the ways in which audiences worldwide experience sound.
According to Christie, its RGB laser projection system continues to be the preferred choice for a premium 3D cinema experience by leading cinema exhibitors across China. Since its rollout in June 2014 with the world’s first commercial RGB laser projection system installed at the Shanghai Film Art Center, Christie’s pinnacle projection technology has seen widespread adoption, the company said.
GDC Technology Limited has won the Film Expo Group’s inaugural CineAsia Technology Innovator of the Year Award. The organization will present the honor to Dr. Man-Nang Chong, the founder, chairman and CEO of GDC, at the CineAsia Awards Ceremony December 8 at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.
Dadi Digital Cinema Corporation, the second-largest theater chain in China, will install the award-winning Christie 6P laser projection system at its newest cineplex in Huaibei, a prefecture-level city in northern Anhui Province.
Barco has introduced two high-contrast flagship laser projectors for premium cinema screens and five new laser phosphor projectors for small to large screens. They include the 2K SLP series for small to mid-size screens and the 2K/4K BLP range for mid-size to large screens. The 6P RGB high-contrast range doubles the contrast of Barco’s current flagship laser projectors and provides exhibitors with an even broader choice in the Premium Large Format segment. The BLP laser phosphor projectors will be shipping by the end of 2016; the SLP laser phosphor and LHC high-contrast projectors will be available first half of 2017.
GDC Technology Limited is showcasing its futuristic immersive lobby experience on the tradeshow floor at CineAsia 2016, held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre December 6-8. The GDC Cinema Lobby Experience comprises a DTS:X Pod to demonstrate immersive sound using headphones and a GDC Virtual Reality Ride featuring DTS:X immersive audio and Sweetech motion technology.
The Motion Picture Sound Editors will honor Guillermo del Toro with its annual Filmmaker Award. The acclaimed director of such films as Hellboy (2004), Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), Pacific Rim (2013), Crimson Peak (2015) and the forthcoming The Shape of Water is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to the art of cinema. He will receive the award at the MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony February 19 in Los Angeles.
