Wonder Woman's audience evolved in a similar manner as most blockbusters but with some trends notably magnified, according to an audience evolution report released by Movio. While the female and fifty and older segments of the audience generally grow over the course of a blockbuster’s run, Wonder Woman’s female audience nearly reached parity with the male audience by the third week.

Moviegoers Prefer Immersive Seating, CJ 4DPlex-Funded Survey Says

Kantar Millward Brown, a specialized consumer research firm, and 4D cinema seating company CJ 4DPlex have announced the results of jointly conducted research entitled Consumer Perception Trends of Global Cinema. The results of the study, conducted in June 2017, are based on 3,000 consumers across the United Kingdom, Japan, and China who watch movies in cinemas more than twice in a year in their given location. The research has found a significant global preference for 4DX technology over traditional movie viewing.

Virtual Reality Focus of IBC2017 Keynote

Rikard Steiber, president of Viveport and senior vice president virtual reality at HTC Vive, will give a conference keynote presentation September 16 at IBC2017 looking at the road ahead for virtual reality. The session will look at the emerging swathe of consumer devices and services, such as the Viveport VR app store, as well as showcasing successful VR experiences across platforms, from entertainment to sports content.

Morgan Stanley analyst Benjamin Swinburne issued a report this week in which he argues that the big studios should get serious about premium on-demand video and suggests that Hollywood release feature films to the home while they’re still showing in movie theatres.

Legacy Empire Management has announced that the first Africa Cinematography Festival will take place in Lagos, Nigeria in the second week of November. “The ACF will provide a platform for film equipment manufacturers to reach the desired market with their latest offerings and technologies.” Said Legacy Empire’s CEO Henry Emenike. “Quality filmmaking is tied directly to good technologies; sadly, there is a huge gap in this aspect among film makers.”

Coming off the heels of a successful inaugural Anime Movie Night screening event this spring, Crunchyroll, which calls itself the destination for anime and manga, working with Screenvision Media and Kaos Connect, will screen the first three episodes of The Ancient Magus’ Bride, a series adapted from the wildly popular manga of the same name.
