Movio has won the prestigious 2016 New Zealand Hi-Tech Innovative Software Product award for its latest development Movio Media. The award was presented to Movio's chief executive and co-founder Will Palmer at the annual New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards gala at the ANZ Viaduct Events Centre, Auckland on May 20th.
The Los Angeles Greek Film Festival has announced that it will honor Twentieth Century Fox chairman & CEO Jim Gianopulos during the Sunday, June 5 Orpheus Awards at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Gianopulos will be feted alongside previously announced fellow Orpheus honoree Academy Award winning actor J.K. Simmons. The awards will be hosted by American Horror Story star Mena Suvari.
iPic has defeated an attempt by AMC Entertainment to dismiss iPic's antitrust claims in Texas. Instead, the court found that there was sufficient evidence of an antitrust conspiracy between AMC and Regal Entertainment that targeted iPic and will allow iPic's conspiracy claims to go to trial.

At the start of National CineMedia’s fifth annual upfront event at the AMC Lincoln Square movie theater on Wednesday, the company’s new CEO, Andy England, posed a rhetorical question: “Why do Millennials love the movies?” The answer, he said, is that “opening weekend for movies are, by definition, culturally relevant. Millennials want to see films as they are released because it puts them in the know. It gives them social currency. Having a point of view on Deadpool or the Jungle Book, or being excited about Bad Moms, is to be part of the narrative or to be woven into the fabric of popular culture.”
Christie will be providing all the projection for Spain’s first permanent dome to showcase 360° and other immersive environments including a second dome dedicated to virtual reality. Held in Madrid, the Immersive Festival Madrid 2016 is running from May 18-21 at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and is free to attend.
The Brooklyn Film Festival has announced their full slate of films for the 2016 edition of this Brooklyn cultural mainstay, which will include the U.S. premiere of Sean Garrity’s award-winning Borealis set to open the festival June 3. This charming, moving and often comedic family drama stars Jonas Chernick, Joey King, Emily Hampshire and Kevin Pollak and has picked up several awards on the festival circuit, including best director for Garrity and a special jury prize for King at the Canadian Filmmakers’ Festival and an honorable mention for best actress award at the 2015 Vancouver International Film Festival. Pollak, Chernick, Hampshire, King and director Garrity are confirmed to attend.
The Library of Congress is once again providing a unique opportunity for film scholars and archivists to play cinematic detective by participating in its free Mostly Lost workshop. The case is solving riddles and finding clues to the identity of unidentified, under-identified or misidentified silent and early sound films. The scene is the state-of-the-art theater at the Packard Campus in Culpeper, Virginia, and the date is Thursday, June 16, through Saturday, June 18.
Vista Group has signed Jinyi International Cinemas following a project piloting Vista Entertainment Solutions software in 19 of its cinemas over the past several months. Jinyi is the third largest cinema exhibition chain in China with 138 cinema sites across southern and eastern China. For VES, Jinyi is the second large-scale chain that the company has secured in China in the last 18 months following Dadi Digital Cinema in 2014.
