Christie Sponsors Toronto International Film Festival for 19th Consecutive Year

Christie is proudly supporting the Toronto International Film Festival as the Official Digital Projection Partner for the 19th consecutive year. The event runs September 5-15 and, for the first time, all major festival sites, including The Visa Screening Room at the Princess of Wales Theatre, Elgin Theatre, Roy Thomson Hall, Ryerson Theatre, and the Winter Garden Theatre, will be equipped with Christie 4K projection.

DTLA Film Festival Seeking 360º/VR/MR Films

Now preparing for its 11th edition, the DTLA Film Festival, downtown Los Angeles’ largest film-TV event, has announced a call for entries for 360º/VR/MR films for a new sidebar of immersive content, running concurrent with the rest of the festival, October 23-27. Submissions for all genres of immersive films are now open through August 16 and are free to all filmmakers. Films can be submitted through the festival's Film Freeway account.

Gunpowder & Sky Acquires Lil Peep Documentary Everybody’s Everything

Global content studio Gunpowder & Sky has acquired worldwide rights to Sebastian Jones and Ramez Silyan’s SXSW music documentary, Everybody’s Everything. The film follows the life and career of Lil Peep, the genre-bending rapper who was just rising to fame when he died of an accidental drug overdose at 21 years old. Dubbed the future of emo by Pitchfork, Gustav Åhr was influential in bringing emo and pop-punk to hip-hop through his mixtapes, released via SoundCloud. Ahr’s first mixtape, 2015’s Lil Peep Part One generated 4,000 plays in its first week.

After more than a century, the highly acclaimed 1915 silent thriller Filibus has been fully restored and will be screened at the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, which is hosting the 10th Women and the Silent Screen Conference this May 25–29. Not only has the museum done a loving restoration of the film but, in the process, they also answered a question that surrounded the movie and added to its success: what was the name of the actress who played Filibus?

UNIC Says All Films in Leading Festivals Should Get a Theatrical Release

The International Union of Cinemas (UNIC) has called for films selected in competition at leading film festivals to receive a full theatrical release. Following the decision from the Berlinale Film Festival to include the Spanish original film Elisa y Marcela in its 2019 official selection, the association released the following statement:

Acclaim for 83 Days

83 Days, a shattering narrative short about racial injustice, which was shot with Panasonic cinema cameras, has been named an Official Selection of the 2018 Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival. The film has already received several best of festival nominations, including Best Short Film, Best Drama Film, Best Short Film Director and Best Short Screenplay.
