NewFest Announces Full Lineup for July Film Festival

NewFest, New York's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Film Festival has announced the complete feature film lineup for its 26th edition, which will be held July 24-29. NewFest is an annual showcase of the best of LGBT cinema, featuring works from renowned filmmakers as well as exciting discoveries. With a lineup of 16 narrative and five documentary features, this year’s group of films continues to carry out the festival’s mission of supporting diverse film communities and voices from around the world.

Restored Xie Jin Classic Opens Shanghai Film Festival

The 17th Shanghai International Film Festival opened with the screening of the classic Chinese film Stage Sisters, which has been fully restored in 4K. Directed by the late Chinese director Xie Jin and first released in 1964, the 50-year-old film is now widely regarded as Xie’s masterpiece.

Martha's Vineyard Film Center holds Second Annual Film and Music Festival

The second annual Film and Music Festival will be held the weekend of June 26-29 at the Martha's Vineyard Film Center. The four-day festival will include features and short films, an opening-night reception on Friday, social gatherings, as well as live music, and post screening Q&As with special guests.

Restored Stations of the Elevated to Premiere June 27 at BAMcinemafest

On Friday, June 27 BAMcinemafest will present the world premiere of APD/Cinema Conservancy’s new restoration of Stations of the Elevated on the Steinberg Screen at the BAM Harvey Theater. The event begins with a live performance by legendary jazz ensemble the Mingus Dynasty, the original Charles Mingus legacy band. The first band Sue Mingus organized after Charles’ death in 1979, this acclaimed orchestra continues to interpret Charles Mingus’ more than 300 compositions, and will perform as a prelude to Manfred Kirchheimer’s jazz-inflected documentary.

Christie Toronto International Film Festival Projection Partner for Fourteenth Year

A Festival sponsor for 14 consecutive years, Christie has played an integral role in ushering in the digital age at this renowned showcase for local and international talents. Douglas Trumbull’s UFOTOG Premieres May 11

Filmmaker and visual effects legend Douglas Trumbull is partnering with Christie on May 11 to premiere UFOTOG, a dramatic 10-minute experimental sci-fi story about a lone man attempting to photograph UFOs. Directed by Trumbull and created in 4K 3D at 120 frames per second, the short film will be screened on a Christie Mirage 4K35, the 4K DLP resolution projector running at 120Hz, at the Seattle Cinerama Theater’s 2nd Annual Sci-Fi Film Festival.
