Sony Electronics is unveiling Venice – its first full-frame digital motion picture camera system. Venice is the next generation of Sony’s CineAlta camera systems, designed to expand the filmmaker’s creative freedom through immersive, large-format, Full Frame capture of filmic imagery producing natural skin tones, elegant highlight handling and wide dynamic range. Venice was designed through close collaboration with the creative community, fulfilling the requirements from filmmakers and production professionals.

The Workshop’s True North is an inspiring documentary about Sean Swarner, who in 2002 became the first cancer survivor to reach the top of Mount Everest. He’s kept climbing ever since spreading his encouraging message of hope. In a span of five years, the two-time cancer survivor with only one functioning lung scaled the Seven Summits, the highest mountains in each of the seven continents.

Giving Reality a Cinematic Look

MTV’s new reality series, Siesta Key, takes the tried and tested concept of earlier efforts like Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and moves it to Florida, following a new group of young adults confronting issues of love, heartbreak, betrayal, class, and looming adulthood as they spend the summer together in their beautiful hometown. Siesta Key is set on a small barrier island off the coast of Sarasota. Cinematographer Gareth Paul Cox shot the series with VariCam 35 and LT cinema cameras.

Panasonic Unveils AU-EVA1 Cinema Camera

New York City and Los Angeles-area cinematographers and filmmakers are invited to attend an exclusive first look of Panasonic’s new AU-EVA1 cinema camera. The events will include the screening of short films shot with the new cinema camera and a question-and-answer session with the films’ cinematographers who will discuss shooting with the EVA1.

As production of the next round of high-profile documentary shooting for the Sea Shepherd organization approached, Gavin Garrison, principal of Red Apple Production, Santa Barbara, California, made the decision to shoot the upcoming project for the first time in 4K. He chose Panasonic’s AG-DVX200 4K large-sensor camcorders for the project.

Keslow Camera Acquires Clairmont Camera

Keslow Camera announced today that it is acquiring Clairmont Camera and its Vancouver and Toronto operations. The move will more than quadruple Keslow Camera’s anamorphic and vintage lens inventory, and add a substantial range of custom camera equipment to the company’s extensive portfolio. Simultaneously, Clairmont founder Denny Clairmont, one of the industry’s most respected talents in front and behind the camera, announced his retirement. The acquisition is expected to be complete on or before August 4.
