Scope Cinemas will officially launch Sri Lanka’s first Imax theatre at the Havelock City Mall on July 24. The theatre will feature Imax with Laser. It will also have Imax Precision Sound and Imax Immersion by Design seating, with stadium-style seating for clear viewing at every seat.
Muvi Cinemas, the largest exhibitor in Saudi Arabia, today announced that it is installing four new, Imax with Laser systems across some of the biggest commercial centers in the country.
Six years ago, Barco began giving private demos for key creatives and exhibition executives of its high dynamic range projection technology called Lightsteering. Today the Lightsteering line of products includes projectors for exhibitors as well as complimentary technology and software toolkits for studios and post-production professionals. Steering light to specific focal points within each frame, Barco says, produces brighter highlights and deeper darks for rich, brilliant, high-contrast images. This is what enables the patented laser projection technology at the core of the HDR by Barco eco-system to deliver a visual experience that the company says is unlike any other HDR system on the market today. HDR by Barco is expected to be widely available later this year. With two 55,000 lumen Christie RGB pure laser projectors as part of a Cinity Cinema System, Cineplex Aachen celebrated a technological premiere in Europe that attracted internationally renowned filmmakers as the first cinema in Germany with a Cinity Cinema System. The projectors were supplied and installed by Ecco Cine Supply & Service, and a second installation is planned for Cinetower in Alsdorf.
Harkness Screens has completed the installation of its latest screen technology, Hugo SR at the recently refurbished Omniplex Cinema in Birmingham, UK. The screen measuring 17.90 by 9.60 meters was recently installed in the cinema’s OmniplexMaxx auditorium along with a Christie CP4435-RGB.

The slate represents the biggest offering of Filmed for Imax releases ever in a single calendar year — more than double any previous year — as filmmakers and studios from Hollywood and international territories increasingly create for the Imax platform.
