Return to the magic of big screen events with the New York International Children’s Film Festival, North America’s largest film festival for kids and teens, and celebrate their 25th annual festival in person. This year’s festival features screenings of exciting new animated, live action and documentary films for young audiences, plus filmmaker Q&As running now through March 19.
The Writers Lab U.S. has opened for submissions for its 2022 edition. Submissions of feature film and pilot scripts by women screenwriters forty years old and older are being accepted via Coverfly now for an in-person intensive to take place near New York City in November. The early deadline is March 10 and regular deadline is March 30. As the association New York Women in Film and Television is a co-founder of The Lab, all NYWIFT organization members get an exclusive discount on applications.
The Writers Lab Europe has received support from Fremantle and HBO Max, Nordic for the first virtual script development program of its kind for women over 40. Submissions are open now until February 7. The Writers Lab, produced by co-founders Elizabeth Kaiden and Nitza Wilon, is the only program devoted exclusively to script development for women and non-binary writers over 40.
Rooftop Films is now accepting submissions for films to be screened during its 2022 summer series. The deadline to enter films is February 18.
The premiere of the feature film documentary Greenwood Ave Project will be held February 27 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The film, directed by Terry Baccus, sheds a light on the Tulsa community after the 1921 massacre in which hundreds of Black-owned homes and businesses were destroyed and many Black people were displaced or slaughtered.
The nonprofit Big Sky Film Institute has announced the full lineup of official selections for its 19th annual Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. A hybrid exhibition in 2022, the festival will screen films in-person February 18-27 in theaters across downtown Missoula, Montana in addition to online screenings February 21 through March 3 in Big Sky’s virtual cinema.
New York Women in Film and Television has partnered with iWomanTV to showcase the work of the association’s talented members through its fifth annual online film festival. Members are invited to submit their short films, TV pilots and webisodes.
Goldcrest Post provided post-production services for three films screening at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. They include Academy Award–nominee Ramin Bahrani’s documentary 2nd Chance, Tia Lessin and Emma Pildes’ documentary The Janes and director Ricky D’Ambrose’s narrative film The Cathedral. The 2022 Sundance Film Festival takes place as a fully virtual event January 20-30.
The Göteborg Film Festival is introducing The Hypnotic Cinema – what the organizers are calling “a mind-bending experiment where visitors are challenged to lose control in the cinema by being hypnotized.” The Hypnotic Cinema examines the possibility to intensify the film experience for those courageous visitors who dare to let loose in the cinema. This year’s festival is being held January 28 through February 6 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Hula Post, a woman-owned post-production company, provided audio, color grading and editing finishing for The Only One, the first independent feature film by the brothers Noah and Seth Gilbert.
