CJ 4DPlex and Christie have expanded their business relationship to identify new opportunities for ScreenX and 4DX systems across the exhibition landscape in the U.S. This extends the previous partnership between ScreenX and Christie that included installations of Christie cinema and ProAV projectors in ScreenX auditoriums across the globe.
For moviegoers, one of the most enduring changes brought about by digital cinema technology has been the pre-show, the twenty minutes or so of programming that precedes the trailers and main feature. Screenvision Media’s pre show runs on a cinema network that now includes more than 15,000 screens, in more than 2,400 locations across all 50 States. The network encompasses more than 90 percent of the top markets in the country and claims more than 500 million consumer admissions annually. I spoke recently with Screenvision’s chief revenue officer Katy Loria regarding how pre-shows have evolved over the past decade and what the future holds.
CinemaNext UK and Omniplex Cinema Group, Ireland’s largest cinema circuit, today announced the signing of an agreement for the sale and roll out of RGB+ Laser-light source upgrades and light engine clean for Barco projectors in 29 Omniplex auditoriums. The roll out across 24 Omniplex cinemas in Ireland and Northern Ireland will take place through the second half of 2019 and adds to the 2018 upgrade to laser of 15 of Omniplex’s largest screens.
CinemaNext and French cinema circuit Megarama today announced a large-scale agreement for the sale and installation of a minimum of 110 Barco Laser projectors at 15 of the circuit’s current sites and upcoming new cinema builds through 2021. Per the agreement, CinemaNext will oversee the replacement of Series 1 digital projectors in all Megarama-branded cinemas located in France, Spain and Morocco.
The Star Cinema Grill of Richmond, Texas has become the second movie theatre in North America to install a Samsung Onyx LED Cinema Screen. And in true Texas style at 46-feet wide, it’s the largest Onyx screen in North America.
CinemaNext has opened a branch office in the Portugal city of Porto to meet cinema exhibitors’ procurement and technical services needs. The new entity, named CinemaNext Portugal, is headed by Francisco Lafuente, current general manager of CinemaNext Spain, based in Valencia.
Christie has reached a worldwide reseller agreement to offer Arts Alliance Media’s full range of integrated theater management software and services to its wide-reaching exhibitor base, and further strengthen Christie’s position as the pre-eminent cinema solutions and expertise provider. The agreement excludes Japan.
Cinionic continues its international expansion into Saudi Arabia by announcing a strategic relationship with the Next Generation Company, sister company to Fawaz Alhokair Group, for its first cinema brand, Muvi Cinemas.
Austrian exhibitor Cineplexx is opening the first all-laser theatre chain in the country. Working with CinemaNext, the European specialist in cinema exhibitor services, is installing Barco Series 4 and Barco Laser projectors from Cinionic.
Cineworld Group – the world’s second largest cinema exhibitor – has signed an agreement to acquire more than 1,000 Christie RGB pure laser cinema projectors. Cineworld has nearly 9,500 screens across 10 territories and will take delivery of the projectors beginning this summer.
