Spotlight Cinema Networks and the American Film Institute are joining in an exclusive yearlong partnership to showcase rare and never-before-seen footage from the AFI Archive within Spotlight’s preshow entertainment to luxury exhibitors and iconic independent film theatres. The inaugural October preshow will feature stories about the making of the classic thriller North By Northwest as told by the “Master of Suspense” himself, Alfred Hitchcock.
Kinepolis’ Jaarbeurs, Utrecht opens October 10 and will feature laser projection, RealD 3D and a MediaMation MX4D auditorium. This is the first of several Kinepolis based MX4D locations as part of a recent deal.

The technology evaluation program was approved last month by NATO’s executive board at the organization’s annual meeting.
Three-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ang Lee’s much anticipated new film, Paramount Pictures’ Gemini Man, premieres October 6 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. As has been the case with Lee’s most recent work, the film stretches technological boundaries by being produced in 4K resolution, stereoscopic 3D, and shot at 120 frames per second. The premiere will use Cinity, the new HFR cinema projection system developed by Christie for Huaxia Film Distribution. Christie’s strategic partnership with Huaxia Film Distribution and GDC Technology Limited resulted in the development of the Cinity Cinema System based on two Christie CP4450-RGB HFR projectors.
Apple Cinemas in Simsbury, Connecticut has installed nearly seven hundred Atom Seating Neon Recliners with swivel tables in eight auditoriums.
Alamo Drafthouse’s newest location – its 39th – in Westminster, Colorado continues the cinema-eatery’s tradition of implementing Sony’s 4K laser digital cinema projection technology. The nine-screen, all-laser complex features Sony’s SRX-R815P and 815DS 4K laser projectors in auditoriums ranging in size from 78 Seats to 245 Seats. The projectors deliver a high contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and are high dynamic range and high frame rate capable.
CJ 4DPlex and Paramount Pictures have expanded their ongoing partnership to release the action-thriller Gemini Man in the ScreenX format. Directed by Ang Lee. Gemini Man in ScreenX will be shown in theaters worldwide beginning October 2, on 233 screens, across 22 countries. The film opens in the U.S. on October 11 at Regal Cinemas, B&B Theatres and CGV Cinemas.
Leading Hindi films distributor Yash Raj Films has teamed with California based MediaMation to release the Indian feature War in MX4D. The film is one of the most anticipated features of all time for the Indian film industry.
Dolby and Guangzhou Jinyi Media Corporation, owner of Jinyi Cinemas, one of the largest cinema circuits in China, today announced the opening of the 2,000th Dolby Atmos cinema screen in China at Jinyi Cinemas Jiaxing site. Jinyi has established its presence in more than 60 cities across China, such as Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Suzhou, and Wuhan, with more than 170 self-owned cinemas, in which 88 screens are equipped with Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos has become the largest premium format in China by screen count, according to the latest statistics from EntGroup Inc.
B&B Theatres will install ten MX4D auditoriums in new builds, existing theatres and retrofitted cinema acquisitions across the United States by the end of next year. “The expansion of our relationship with MediaMation proves our belief in MX4D,” said Brock Bagby, executive vice president of B&B Theatres.
