Film exhibition company PVR Cinemas has entered into an agreement with Oma Cinema of France to introduce the concept of cinema pods in the Indian market. Through its vertical architecture, Oma provides the audience with an intimate cinematic experience with tiered balconies, or pods, enabling viewers to enjoy a sociable cinema experience while enjoying a perfect view of the screen.

Aeon Entertainment, Japan, Adding Two Imax Theatres

Aeon Entertainment and Imax Corporation today announced plans to expand their partnership with an agreement for two new, Imax with Laser systems in Japan. Both new systems will be located at prime retail complexes in thriving suburbs of major Japanese cities, including the Aeon Cinema Ichikawa Myoden outside Tokyo and Aeon Cinema Shijonawate near Osaka.

AAM Announces Lifeguard Agreement with Ster-Kinekor Theatres

Arts Alliance Media has announced a new software agreement with Ster-Kinekor Theatres, the largest movie exhibitor in South Africa. As the company seeks to centralize asset management and put an end to potential show interruptions, Ster-Kinekor will deploy Lifeguard, the cloud-based Network Operations Centre solution, to monitor 436 screens across South Africa, becoming first recipient of its new-look user interface and impressive suite of workflows and data points.

Cinemex Names GDC Exclusive Digital Cinema Media Server Provider

GDC Technology Limited has won a solicited proposal from Cinemex to exclusively provide 200 digital cinema media servers. Cinemex is Mexico’s second largest theatre circuit and operates in cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Toluca, Juarez, Leon, Tijuana, Mexicali, Puebla, and other Mexican cities. The agreement involves the deployment of the GDC SR-1000 Standalone Integrated Media Block with Portable Storage to to be installed over the next 12 months. The agreement covers the replacement of legacy media servers at existing sites and all Cinemex’s new construction projects in Mexico.

Flix Brewhouse Installing GDC Cinema Automation

Flix Brewhouse is installing GDC’s Cinema Automation CA2.0 to fully automate cinema operations for perfect presentation while significantly reducing the costs associated with booth operations. Flix Brewhouse was founded in 2011 and now operates nine dine-in cinema concepts in Indiana, Iowa, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas, and Wisconsin. Flix Brewhouse is the only first-run movie theatre in the world to incorporate a fully functioning microbrewery.

Velocity Expands its Cinema Lobby Network

Velocity has expanded its exhibitor network as part of its agreement with Screenvision Media to install as many as 1,000 individual theatres with up to 4,000 digital displays. The displays will promote exhibitor offerings and upcoming movies, national, local, and regional advertising, and be connected to the leading programmatic advertising exchanges.

Christie, Lightstorm Collaborate on Avatar 2

In a partnership that spans 16 years Christie Digital Systems and Lightstorm Entertainment, filmmaker James Cameron’s production company, collaborated to bring enhancements to theatrical display capabilities for 3D, high frame rate digital cinema for Avatar and the much-anticipated Avatar 2. Known for his creativity and development of cutting-edge technologies to push the frontier of cinematic storytelling, Cameron used Christie cinema projectors as a key part of realizing his vision.
