Suning Cinema, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chinese electronics retail giant Suning Commerce Group, has deployed Christie’s RGB laser projection system for its new theaters in Shanghai and Zhenjiang.
Wanda Pictures and Dolby Laboratories today announced that Wanda Pictures’ feature For A Few Bullets will be released for Dolby Cinema locations in China on July 15, making it the first Chinese local language movie mastered in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
Wanda Cinema will open Dolby Cinema theatres in Asia in Dalian, Changchun, Chongqing, and Jinan, it was announced today. “We are transforming the movie experience in China with Wanda,” said Doug Darrow, senior vice president, cinema business group, Dolby Laboratories. “With powerful image and sound technologies and unique design, Dolby Cinema is one of the best places to see a movie. We look forward to captivating audiences in China who seek the very best quality in entertainment and to bringing Dolby Cinema to more cities with Wanda Cinema Line.”
Jinyi Cinemas has signed Caiz Optronics Corporation and Cinemeccanica to retrofit 100 digital projectors in China this year in the top multiplexes in the cinema chain. The agreement is believed to be the biggest contract to date to introduce laser projection in the Chinese cinema market on wide scale.
Vista Group has signed Jinyi International Cinemas following a project piloting Vista Entertainment Solutions software in 19 of its cinemas over the past several months. Jinyi is the third largest cinema exhibition chain in China with 138 cinema sites across southern and eastern China. For VES, Jinyi is the second large-scale chain that the company has secured in China in the last 18 months following Dadi Digital Cinema in 2014.
Located in Xi’an, the capital city of Shaanxi Province, in the recently opened CityOn Xi’an shopping mall in the heart of the city’s new Central Business District and administrative center, the Xi’an Oscar CityOn International Cinema has nine halls, including a premium large screen auditorium fitted with a 24.2-meter wide screen – the largest in Xi’an. It is the first cinema in central China to be equipped with the Christie CP42LH 3DLP 4K RGB laser projection system.
VR content developer Rascali debuted trailers today for its first episodic VR projects, Raven and Storybox, on YouTube, Facebook/Oculus Video, Jaunt, Littlstar, Vrideo and Samsung MilkVR.
ScreenX has unveiled the feature films that will be released this year in the immersive multi-screen format. They include two Korean films and two Chinese films. Operation Chromite follows the heroic Korean soldiers who carried out a pivotal covert operation during the Korean War. Liam Neeson stars as General MacArthur. Lee Jung-jae and Lee Beom-soo also star. The film is directed by Lee Jae-han and produced by Taewon Entertainment. Wanda Cinema Line Corporation is planning to purchase more than 800 units of Dolby digital cinema processors, including the Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 and the Dolby Digital Cinema Processor CP750, to deploy in all of its new cinema screens in China through the end of 2016.
Jackie Chan Cinema and Dolby Laboratories today announced that the premium Dolby Cinema experience is coming to the top-grossing movie site in China, Jackie Chan Cinema’s Beijing Wukesong. The cinema site topped China’s box office and attendance rankings from 2011 to 2015. In 2014, it was the only cinema to achieve a box office gross of RMB 100 million in China.
