UFO Moviez India Dolby Collaborate on Audio Upgrade

UFO Moviez India and Dolby Laboratories are collaborating to bring a major transition in the audio experience across UFO’s digital cinema screens in India. Dolby will assist UFO in setting up the digital encoding and mastering workflow for UFO Moviez and provide UFO-Dolby co-branded CP750 cinema processors delivering an end-to-end digital sound process and helping to provide an authentic audio experience in the theatres.

XDC to Release At The Very Last Moment 3D

XDC is releasing At The Very Last Moment in 3D the new feature film from French free ride production company Perfect Moment Entertainment whose well-known concept Nuit de la Glisse focuses on the triumphs and achievements of extreme sportsmen and women as they take on Mother Nature at her most challenging. French film maker Thierry Donard has been filming free riding athletes for 30 years and formed Perfect Moment Entertainment a production company dedicated to the filming of extreme sports from all four corners of the globe.

Ymagis Claims Deployment First in Europe

Ymagis says it has deployed more than 1 050 digital projection systems in France becoming the first deploying entity to pass the 1 000 systems figure in any one European country. Ymagis says it expects to sign and deploy more screens in the coming months. Ymagis estimates that the company has been able to reach a market share in excess of 30 percent of the French virtual print fee market.

Orange Sky Golden Harvest Cinemas Orders 200 GDC Servers

GDC Technology has secured a contract for the sale of 200 digital cinema servers from Orange Sky Golden Harvest Cinemas. OSGH Cinemas is a subsidiary of Orange Sky Golden Harvest Entertainment Group. In 1977 the Group opened its first cinema in Hong Kong. Since then the Group has committed to bringing the best cinematic experience to its audiences. Eager to expand into the China market the Group has built premium flagship cinemas in Shenzhen in 2005 touting a box office that has ranked top three among cinemas nationwide since 2006.

Megaplex Signs Long-Term VPF Deal

Cinedigm Digital Cinema has announced a long-term virtual print fee deployment agreement with Megaplex Theatres. Megaplex will be providing its own financing in the Cinedigm exhibitor-buyer deal structure.   The rollout comprises 90 screens at six Megaplex locations; the majority of installations should be completed by summer 2012. “After extensive research and evaluation of our options we are thrilled to be working with Cinedigm on this conversion to digital ” says Blake Andersen of Megaplex Theatres.

Star Treatment for Call of Duty

A new trailer for the Activision record-setting game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has the look and feel of a blockbuster movie with spectacular action an all-star cast and a big screen soundtrack created by two-time Academy Award-winner and Soundelux Supervising Sound Editor Per Hallberg. Conceived by Los Angeles advertising agency 72andSunny and directed by Peter Berg the live action trailer (whose web version runs 90 seconds) casts Sam Worthington as The Vet and Jonah Hill as The N00b in an urban combat scenario.

Providence Place Imax Re-Opens

Following a two-year renovation National Amusements has announced the re-opening of the Imax theatre at Providence Place in Providence Rhode Island. The company’s three million dollar reinvestment includes a new Imax digital screen 32 000-watt sound system and a newly updated lobby area including a new concession facility with digital menu systems. “Reinvesting into communities and existing properties is a top priority for National Amusements ” says Steve Horton vice president of U.S. operations.

Pixomondo Helps Bring Red Tails to Life

International visual effects company Pixomondo completed 546 shots on Red Tails about a third of the film’s 1524 total VFX shots. A passion project of executive producer George Lucas more than 20 years in the making the tale of World War II Tuskegee Airmen features explosive VFX work from five of Pixomondo’s eleven global facilities a network of companies located across the US UK Germany Canada and China.
