Kodak, Sundance Collaborate To Support Independent Filmmakers

Kodak and Sundance Institute are collaborating to support the Institute’s preservation efforts while also supporting independent filmmakers who are using motion picture film. As part of the new alliance, Kodak is providing film to the Sundance Institute’s Archives, which hosts a wealth of images, tapes and artifacts preserved over its rich 35-year history. Kodak is also creating 35mm exhibition prints for filmmakers who originated their projects on film and those with features in the U.S. Competition categories at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival who want to screen a film print. Additionally, Kodak is offering Sundance Lab participants a 50 percent discount on film purchased for origination of their project.

Creating a Giant Experience

One of the highlights at this year’s Sundance Film Festival’s New Frontier Program could be the five-minute virtual reality film experience Giant. Drawing on director and co-creator Milica Zec’s personal experiences as a child in war-torn Serbia, the VR narrative takes the viewer into the experience of a family struggling to survive in a war zone. The film shows how cinematic VR lets us observe our instincts and ourselves and become more conscious of the way we make choices.

Dolby Atmos Heard all over Sundance

Sundance Institute and the Dolby Institute, along with the Ray and Dagmar Dolby Family Fund have announced that Swiss Army Man, written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, written and directed by Taika Waititi, have both been selected as the 2016 recipients of the Dolby Family Sound Fellowship.

Miami Festival Focuses on Women Filmmakers

A unique partnership with Google on a new seminar series addressing gender and racial gaps in the film industry, particularly in technical cinematographic roles, is among new highlights unveiled today by Miami Dade College's Miami International Film Festival, as Festival organizers count down to the 33rd edition of the acclaimed annual event March 4 - 13, 2016. The Festival is the only major film festival produced and presented worldwide by a college or university. The Festival also unveiled 21 additional new feature films for the 2016 program, highlighting some of the year's most superb accomplishments. All the films have the special distinction of having been directed by women.

Technicolor PostWorks Finishes a Dozen Films for Sundance

Technicolor PostWorks New York assisted in the completion of a dozen films screening at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Projects included a mix of highly anticipated narrative films from both established filmmakers and emerging artists. Services ranged from dailies processing, offline systems rentals, editorial finishing and color grading to sound editorial and mixing. The Festival will be held January 21-31 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Sundance and Ogden, Utah.

Barco Provides Projectors for International Film Festival of Kerala

Barco will provide three digital cinema projectors to the International Film Festival of Kerala, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Every year, several national and international movies are screened at the festival for the very first time. The competition section is limited to 14 selected films, produced in Asian, African or Latin-American countries.

Technicolor PostWorks New York continues its long-standing association with DOC NYC as a Signature Sponsor of the documentary film festival happening this month in New York. Ben Murray, the facility’s vice president/creative services, and Joe Beirne, its chief technology officer, will co-host a panel aimed at first-time filmmakers entitled Post-Production Secrets. Additionally, Technicolor PostWorks provided post-production services for five films screening at the festival.
