Cinépolis Upgrading 2,600 Screens to Laser

Cinépolis, Mexico’s largest cinema company, has announced an initiative to upgrade more than 2,600 screens to laser projection. The deal brings Laser Projection by Cinionic to a significant portion of the global chain’s nearly 6,700 screens, delivering efficiency and up to 70 percent energy savings for Cinepolis and an elevated viewing experience for their audiences.

Cinemex Names GDC Exclusive Digital Cinema Media Server Provider

GDC Technology Limited has won a solicited proposal from Cinemex to exclusively provide 200 digital cinema media servers. Cinemex is Mexico’s second largest theatre circuit and operates in cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Toluca, Juarez, Leon, Tijuana, Mexicali, Puebla, and other Mexican cities. The agreement involves the deployment of the GDC SR-1000 Standalone Integrated Media Block with Portable Storage to to be installed over the next 12 months. The agreement covers the replacement of legacy media servers at existing sites and all Cinemex’s new construction projects in Mexico.

Estudios GGM Opens New Studios

Estudios GGM, Mexico’s largest independent production facility, is unveiling three new soundstages as it prepares to resume production activity in June. Ranging from 10,000 to 13,000 square feet, the new stages will be the studio’s largest and give it a total of nine shooting spaces. Construction of one stage is already complete while work on the other two will be finished by November when the studio expects to be supporting a full slate of television and feature productions.

Cinematic Media Finishes El Club Season One

Post-production finishing for the first season of El Club, Netflix’s new young adult dramedy, was recently completed at Cinematic Media in Mexico City. The country’s only full-service facility focused exclusively on cinema and television post, the company handled both sound and picture finishing for the series, now available through the streaming service in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking markets.
