Éclair today announced the successful remastering of Antonin Baudry’s Le Chant du Loup, the first French feature film in 300 nits high dynamic range for Onyx Cinema LED screens. In addition to the Onyx Cinema LED version, Le Chant du Loup is available in ÉclairColor in 15 cinemas across France.
Dolby Laboratories congratulates this year’s Academy Award nominees who have tapped into the audio-visual power of Dolby technologies to draw audiences into their stories. Five of the eight Best Picture nominees this year used both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. And all five films nominated for Sound Mixing and Sound Editing awards this year were presented in Dolby Atmos.

These top digital cinema technology authorities from around the world will address a range of issues facing professionals in all phases of the motion picture industry. The half-day event takes place February 6 at the Okura Hotel in Amsterdam the Netherlands. The New York facility of Eurofins Digital Media Services has been granted a Certification in Dolby Vision Quality Control Services. Eurofins is the first dedicated Dolby Vision quality assurance facility on the East Coast, meeting the growing demand for quality control and testing services in New York City.
In November, the Digital Cinema Initiative posted two new draft documents towards a high dynamic range specification for cinema titled Direct View Display D-Cinema Addendum and High Dynamic Range D-Cinema Addendum. They represent a major improvement over DCI’s previous draft, which I wrote about last September [DCI Has Lost Its Way https://bit.ly/2Omcnoa]. In contrast, the new documents are well written, detailed, explanatory and responsive. But questions remain and cost matters, leaving plenty of room for improvement.
FandangoNow, Fandango’s video on-demand service, will become the first U.S. digital retailer for IMAX Enhanced films releasing to home video. FandangoNow will have exclusive rights as the sole transactional VOD service to feature this content in the U.S. through 2019. The IMAX Enhanced program is a certification and licensing program, combining IMAX digitally re-mastered 4K high dynamic range content and DTS audio technologies.

The company says it is the first facility in the greater New York area, dedicated solely to master quality control with a focus on 4K/UHD high dynamic range video and immersive audio formats.
Earlier this week Éclair and Samsung held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open Éclair’s Paris-Vanves Onyx Cinema LED facility, the first of its kind in Europe. Éclair can now provide professional services specifically tailored for the Onyx Cinema LED – contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, color grading with true zero nit black, and ÉclairColor DCP mastering – to European filmmakers, producers and distributors.
