The call for entries is now open for the HPA Engineering Excellence Award. The award recognizes the companies and individuals who have created breakthrough technologies in media, content production, finishing, distribution, and archive. The 2022 submission period runs through June 24. Judging will again take place online, in July.
The Union Internationale des Cinémas/International Union of Cinemas and the Film Expo Group have announced the recipients of the 2022 CineEurope Gold Awards, given to cinema professionals in recognition of their outstanding dedication and service to the sector. The Awards will be presented as part of the CineEurope Awards Ceremony on June 23 at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain.
The United Nations Development Programme and SAWA Global Cinema Advertising Association today launched an eight-week international cinema advertising aimed at raising awareness of the climate emergency and spurring broader, urgent action to address it. In the 60-second cinema ad, Frankie, a computer-generated dinosaur is seen storming into the UN General Assembly, seizing its iconic podium, and urging stunned-looking dignitaries to avoid the dinosaurs’ fate—extinction—by making changes to tackle the climate crisis.
Back by popular demand, the Event Cinema Association has announced the return of the ECA Slate Day – its first in-person event in more two years. Slate Day will take place on May 26 at Vue Westfield, London.
In cooperation with The University of Gothenburg and Region Västra Götaland, the Göteborg Film Fund 2022 is now opening the call for three residencies with a duration of three months each. The Göteborg Film Fund is an initiative from Göteborg Film Festival to support films and filmmakers in regions where filmmaking is difficult, due to economic or political reasons.
SAWA Global Cinema Advertising Association has announced that Kathryn Jacob OBE has been named president-elect of the global trade body. Jacob will assume the role when Florian Weischer, CEO Weischer.Cinema, steps down after an eight-year term on August 1. She will be the first female president in SAWA’s 68-year history.
Arri will support the Canadian Society of Cinematographers’ The Future is Calling campaign with a contribution of $300,000 in Canadian currency. The $3.75 million campaign, launched in November, will support a national outreach, education, internship, and online educational program to break down barriers marginalized communities face in accessing jobs in the film and television industry. The campaign has received support from the industry, government, and philanthropic funders. More than half the goal has been pledged to date.
