The Board of Governors of the American Society of Cinematographers has voted on the organization’s 2021-2022 officers and Stephen Lighthill has been re-elected president. He will serve his next one-year term alongside vice presidents Amy Vincent, Steven Fierberg and John Simmons; treasurer Steven Poster; secretary Gregg Heschong; and sergeant-at-arms Jim Denault.

The Hollywood Professional Association has announced the honorees for its first HPA League Honors, which recognize diverse members of the media and entertainment community who shine as examples of accomplishment, innovation, and leadership. Recipients of the HPA League Honors were determined by a jury of industry experts. The HPA League Honors are the culmination of HPA’s All In event, a weeklong exploration of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the industry taking place May 24-27.
Post New York Alliance’s Green Committee is hosting an online movie night to discuss Kiss the Ground, a new Netflix documentary, narrated by Woody Harrelson, about regenerative agriculture, a scientifically viable solution to the climate crisis. The event will feature guest speaker Renee Crowley, deputy director of The Lower Eastside Ecology Center. Free and open to all, the event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 12 at 5:00 p.m. on Zoom.
The Unholy, a Sony Pictures/Screen Gems feature film produced by Sam Raimi came to a grinding halt just 10 days shy of their wrap date, due to the COVID pandemic. But with the ingenuity of the visual effects and post-production team, the film was pulled off the shelf, solutions were devised, and the film was completed. It hit the big screen in theatres across the country in April – one of the first films to be released theatrically, in the U.S., since the COVID-19 outbreak.
The European Audiovisual Observatory and the UK, which holds the Observatory Presidency for 2021, have announced an international conference to be held June 9, focused on how to accelerate environmental sustainability across the film, TV, and streaming platforms sector.
The Hollywood Professional Association has called for submissions for the HPA Engineering Excellence Awards. Entries will be accepted until June 18. Celebrating the creative brilliance and ingenuity of the HPA community since 2006, the HPA Awards are sought after recognition by artists, companies, and technologists. In 2021, the HPA Awards gala will take place as an in person and online event in mid-November. The date, as well as further details, will be announced shortly.
The Event Cinema Association’s Slate Day will return on Wednesday 9 June and will be free to all to join. The association promises a full slate of presentations from a range of content providers showcasing new event cinema content plus a series of topical panel discussions and presentations.
