LG Talks Cinema and Future Plans

Last month LG Electronics officially confirmed that it has entered the cinema market with its LG LED Cinema Display technology. The company further announced that Showtime Cinemas in Taiwan had installed the first LG LED Cinema screen. The screen is 14 meters wide and seven meters high and has been certified by the Digital Cinema Initiatives. LG and Dolby Laboratories closely collaborated to integrate Dolby’s IMS3000 Integrated Media Server and Dolby Atmos sound into the new cinema system. I recently spoke via email with Jin An, product manager for LG LED Cinema products, to learn more about the technology and LG’s plans for the cinema market.

CineLife Bringing Stones Documentary to Drive-Ins

CineLife Entertainment, a division of Spotlight Cinema Networks, has announced the drive-in theatre rollout of The Rolling Stones: Havana Moon, a concert filmed in Havana, Cuba in 2016. The company will partner with UK content provider Eagle Rock to bring this film to drive-in theatres across the U.S. and Canada for an exclusive summer concert experience beginning July 1, while observing specific state reopening guidelines.

Fandango Launches Comprehensive Program to Reassure Returning Movie Patrons

To support the reopening of movie theatres across the country, Fandango announced today the launch of a multi-dimensional program to help moviegoers go back to theatres with confidence and peace of mind. Starting today, Fandango.com and Fandango mobile apps will begin rolling out new resources and product functionality, including social distance seating maps, a one-stop guide to safety policies provided by more than one hundred theatre chains, a special search filter to find reopened theatres by location, instructional videos and more.

Kinepolis Accelerates Move to Laser Projection

Global exhibitor Kinepolis Group, which operates more than a thousand screens across nine countries including the US, Belgium, Spain, France, the Netherlands and Canada, is accelerating its transition to laser projection. In 2018, Kinepolis announced an exclusive partnership with Cinionic to power 300 screens with new laser projectors.
