Ymagis Group Reports Q1 2017 Revenue

Ymagis Group has reported its consolidated financial results for the first quarter of 2017, ending March 31. In a market where replacement sales have not yet significantly taken off and after a first quarter generally unrepresentative of annual business, revenue for Ymagis Group was down by 2.9 percent at €41.5 million over the first three months of 2017, mainly due to the effect of a scheduled reduction in VPF business and a temporary fall in equipment sales.

Arri Opening French Subsidiary

In order to facilitate its business in France, Arri, the Munich-based film technology company, is announcing the founding of Arri CT (for Cine Technik) France. For the first time, Arri will have an office space solely dedicated to its camera systems and lighting business units in France while being able to offer a special promotional platform for the Alexa 65 available from Arri Rental. Arri CT France will open its doors in September in time to celebrate the company’s 100th birthday.

Making the Cut

AlphaDogs has completed work on the documentary film John Lewis: Get In The Way, which tells the story of the courageous civil rights hero, congressional leader and human rights champion, whose unwavering fight for justice spans the past 50 years. In order for the documentary to air on PBS, Bill Woolery, offline editor, had the task of cutting the film down to 54 minutes, taking six minutes out of the original cut and handing off the cut down to AlphaDogs for finishing.

Streamlining the VR Workflow

Extravaganza, a new virtual reality short film satire directed by Ethan Shaftel, leveraged Maxon Cinema 4D software and its CV-VR Cam dedicated plug-in for rendering VR content to streamline the production workflow. The film, which stars Paul Scheer (The League, 30 Rock), John Gemberling (Broad City, Santa Clarita Diet), Will Greenberg (Wrecked), and Annie Tedesco (Bella and the Bulldogs), debuted to positive acclaim at the Tribeca Film Festival’s Immersive Virtual Arcade and will make its European premiere during the Cannes Film Festival May 17-28 at the Marche du Film Next VR program.

Editing Sound for Object-Based Audio Formats

Cinema sound and television audio – broadcast and streamed – are both racing from 5.1 surround to 7.1 to formats that range from 11.2 in broadcast for residential applications to as many as 64 individual speaker locations for object-based audio platforms like Dolby’s Atmos and Auro Technologies’ Auro-3D.
