DTS has certified the first DTS:X immersive audio system on the largest direct view screen in the world at Xidan Capital Cinema in Beijing, China. The DTS:X audio system for direct view at Xidan Capital Cinema includes the use of screen speakers placed above and below the direct view screen surface along with custom tuning which delivers realistic positioning of on-screen sound while preserving natural dialogue quality and timbre. Accurate representation of movie soundtracks in the direct-view environment was made possible through the use of DTS:X technology that scales and adapts to virtually any speaker configuration in a wide array of theatre auditoriums.
The Xidan Beijing Capital Cinema features Samsung’s 46-foot wide Onyx screen. GDC Technology, the official distributor of Onyx Cinema in China, was the system integrator and provided their LPU-1000 integrated media block, designed for Onyx. Prime Connections, China, was responsible for the audio system.
Bill Neighbors, senior vice president and general manager cinema and home at DTS said “I was blown away by the impact of vibrant direct view images, combined with the precision of the DTS:X immersive audio system in the Beijing Xidan Capital Cinema theatre. Dialogue is clear, clean and well positioned ‘on’ the screen. I’m grateful to the skilled team who worked with DTS to deliver the first ever direct-view cinema system with DTS:X certified sound.”
Additional direct view screen installations with DTS:X sound are in planning. In keeping with the adaptive DTS:X system implementation, DTS will work closely with exhibitors and system integrators to commission DTS:X for direct view systems for each unique auditorium and sound system configuration.
