Women in Exhibition to Host Reception at Inaugural CinemaCon
On the heels of a successful kick-off event in Los Angeles, the trade group Women in Exhibition is set to make its CinemaCon 2020 debut. Officially introduced at 2019’s Geneva Convention, Women in Exhibition serves as a networking hub for women within the film exhibition industry. Since its launch, the non-profit foundation has welcomed more than 100 new members. At WIE events in Los Angeles in January and at last year’s ShowEast, women gathered to chat, network, and have a little fun.
Compression, File Sizes Topics at Next SMPTE Hollywood Section Meeting
The Hollywood Section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers will explore the evolution of video compression, and new ideas for keeping files small, while preserving quality and creative intent, at its monthly meeting, scheduled for March 26 at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Hollywood Professional Association Names New Board Members
The Hollywood Professional Association has named Paul Chapman, Kari Grubin, and Joachim Zell to its board of directors. They will serve three-year terms that began January 1. Michael DeValue joins the board for a one-year term as the SMPTE representative, a role vacated by Chapman at the end of his term.

The not-for-profit independent trade organization Cinema Technology Community has announced ambitious plans to support the cinema industry during 2020 through knowledge-sharing and education initiatives across a broad range of issues.
New Industry Group Formed to Mentor Next Generation of Media Pros
A coalition of companies and organizations from across the media and entertainment industry, EIPMA is dedicated to nurturing the industry’s next generation of talent. It plans to partner with high schools, universities and entertainment industry organizations to increase student awareness for career opportunities in the entertainment industry through job fairs, speaker programs, webinars and other events. It will also connect aspiring professionals with mentoring and career counseling programs.
Mark Lanza Elected President of Motion Picture Sound Editors
The Motion Picture Sound Editors association has elected Mark Lanza as president. Lanza is an award-winning supervising sound editor and currently serves as the organization’s treasurer. His two-year term as president begins in January. He succeeds Tom McCarthy.
67th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Award Winners Announced
The Motion Picture Sound Editors association presented the 67th MPSE Annual Golden Reel Awards at a black-tie ceremony Sunday, January 19 at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. Golden Reel Awards recognizing outstanding achievement in sound editing were presented in 23 categories encompassing feature films, long-form and short-form television, animation, documentaries, games, special venue and other media.
American Society of Cinematographers Names Terry McCarthy CEO
The American Society of Cinematographers has named Terry McCarthy as CEO of the organization. In this newly created role, McCarthy is responsible for all business matters relating to the Society, including events, educational efforts, and publishing.
