Éclair Remasters First French Feature Film for Onyx Cinema LED Technology

Éclair today announced the successful remastering of Antonin Baudry’s Le Chant du Loup, the first French feature film in 300 nits high dynamic range for Onyx Cinema LED screens. In addition to the Onyx Cinema LED version, Le Chant du Loup is available in ÉclairColor in 15 cinemas across France.

Final Speakers Set for Digital Cinema Summit

The final roster of speakers has been set for the first Digital Cinema Summit. These top digital cinema technology authorities from around the world will address a range of issues facing professionals in all phases of the motion picture industry. The half-day event takes place February 6 at the Okura Hotel in Amsterdam the Netherlands. Nick Dager, Editor & Publisher of Digital Cinema Report created the Summit in conjunction with Integrated Systems Europe. The theme is Transforming the Moviegoing Experience; its purpose is to give digital cinema technology center stage.

DCI Must Do More on HDR

In November, the Digital Cinema Initiative posted two new draft documents towards a high dynamic range specification for cinema titled Direct View Display D-Cinema Addendum and High Dynamic Range D-Cinema Addendum. They represent a major improvement over DCI’s previous draft, which I wrote about last September [DCI Has Lost Its Way https://bit.ly/2Omcnoa]. In contrast, the new documents are well written, detailed, explanatory and responsive. But questions remain and cost matters, leaving plenty of room for improvement.

Capital Cinema Unveils World’s Largest Onyx Screen

Samsung Electronics unveiled its largest-ever 3D-ready Onyx screen at Capital Cinema in the Xicheng district in Beijing, China. The December 7 opening of the world’s largest 3D LED cinema was timed with the premiere of Warner Bros.’ DC Comics superhero film Aquaman, which has a DTS:X immersive sound track. Aquaman opened with $93.6 million in ticket sales in three days in China, marking the best start for a Warner Bros. title in that territory.
