GDC Technology has entered into virtual print fee agreements with six exhibitors in Argentina: Village Cines, CCA CinemaCenter, Cines Multiplex, Atlas Cines, CPM and Cinema la Plata Cinemas. The deal enables the company to manage a financial subsidy that assists with costs involved in the chains’ conversion to digital cinema.
Barco has introduced the smallest member of its digital cinema projector portfolio. The DP2K-6E is designed for chains and independent cinemas with screens up to 7.5 meters (24 feet) wide. The projector will be commercially available in October.
Leading Dutch exhibitor JT Cinema is set to centralize all its operations with Arts Alliance Media’s Producer enterprise content management system. The agreement, which covers 102 screens across the Netherlands, will see all of JT Cinema’s sites connected to Producer at head office. From one central instance at head office, JT will be able to monitor and manage all content, KDMs, advertising and trailer pre-show, and reporting across 20 sites.
CJ 4DPLex and Mars Cinema Group are partnering to bring 4DX to Turkey for the first time. Developed by CJ 4DPLex, 4DX is the world’s first 4D-technology based cinema for feature films, using motion, vibration, water, wind, lighting, scents and more to provide moviegoers with a truly immersive experience. The first Turkish location for 4DX will be at Cinemaximum Marmara Forum in Istanbul, which boasts the greatest number of screens and seats of any cinema in the country. It is expected to open in mid September this year.
The first of two Sony 4K projection systems is being installed in the newly-refurbished premium XPlus auditorium at National Amusements’ Showcase Cinema de Lux Reading multiplex in the south of England. Big, bright 4K pictures on the 18-meter screen are complemented by a Dolby Atmos system to create immersive, three-dimensional sound.
The Ymagis Group has signed new virtual print fee agreements under the third-party collector-financing model with six major Turkish cinema exhibitor chains. The deals represent 409 screens in 50 cinema sites operated by Turkey’s Avsar Sinema, Cinemarine, Cinens Sinemalari, Prestige Cinema, Aksin Sinemari and Torunlar/Cinetech.

AEG-owned Regal Cinemas L.A. Live Stadium 14, home to the first and only 4DX-equipped theatre in the United States, says it has tripled its revenue in the first year using CJ 4DPlex technology. The 104-seat 4DX auditorium at Regal Cinemas L.A. Live has achieved $1.52 million in revenue attracting 70,000 attendees since opening last year, representing an increase of 88 percent in attendance versus the previous 12 months in the same auditorium prior to the conversion. Jurassic World is now playing in the theatre as it celebrates its first anniversary as a 4DX venue.
