Six Days Films, Roast Beef Productions, Doc Society and Journeyman Films are releasing the critically acclaimed documentary F@ck This Job (Tango with Putin) in UK cinemas beginning February 24. Produced by Mike Lerner (Oscar-nominated Hell and Back Again, Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer) produced and directed by Vera Krichevskaya and executive produced by Jess Search (Oscar winning Citizenfour, Emmy-nominated Virunga), Sandra Whipham (Emmy award-winning P.O.V. and Enemies of the People) and Barbara Biemann (National Bird), the film is an unprecedented look at censorship and the dramatic changing media landscape inside Putin’s Russia since 2008.

BSDFF Announces Official Selections for 2022 Festival

The nonprofit Big Sky Film Institute has announced the full lineup of official selections for its 19th annual Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. A hybrid exhibition in 2022, the festival will screen films in-person February 18-27 in theaters across downtown Missoula, Montana in addition to online screenings February 21 through March 3 in Big Sky’s virtual cinema.

National Film Registry Selects Wobblies Documentary

Each year the Librarian of Congress chooses a select group of films to be inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. The Registry champions American films and this year the seminal documentary, The Wobblies (1979), which was awarded a New York Women in Film and Television Women’s Film Preservation Fund grant in 2003, has been honored with inclusion to the list. The Wobblies (1979) by Deborah Shaffer and Stewart Bird is in outstanding company with others named to the Registry such as Sylvia Morales’ Chicana, Cheryl Dunye’s The Watermelon Woman and Who Killed Vincent Chin? by Christine Choy and Renee Tajima-Pena.

Goldcrest Post Supports Three Sundance Films

Goldcrest Post provided post-production services for three films screening at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. They include Academy Award–nominee Ramin Bahrani’s documentary 2nd Chance, Tia Lessin and Emma Pildes’ documentary The Janes and director Ricky D’Ambrose’s narrative film The Cathedral. The 2022 Sundance Film Festival takes place as a fully virtual event January 20-30.

Göteborg Film Festival Unveils Hypnotic Cinema

The Göteborg Film Festival is introducing The Hypnotic Cinema – what the organizers are calling “a mind-bending experiment where visitors are challenged to lose control in the cinema by being hypnotized.” The Hypnotic Cinema examines the possibility to intensify the film experience for those courageous visitors who dare to let loose in the cinema. This year’s festival is being held January 28 through February 6 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Native Veteran Short Films Screening at Circle Cinema

The Cherokee Nation Film Office, Circle Cinema and FireThief Productions are presenting free screenings of the Native Veteran Shorts program. In honor of Native American Heritage Month, the special screenings will feature seven short documentaries from the Emmy-winning series Osiyo, Voices of the Cherokee People, spotlighting the work and service of Indigenous veterans.

Goldcrest Supports Five Films in Doc NYC Film Festival

Goldcrest Post provided final color grading and editorial finishing for five films screening at next month’s Doc NYC fest. They include three world premieres and two films making their New York City premieres. The largest documentary film festival in the country, Doc NYC 2021 will feature in-person screenings November 10-18 and will continue online through November 28.

Documentary Filmmaker R.J. Cutler to Receive Pennebaker Award

The Pennebaker Award will be presented to documentarian R.J. Cutler during the sixth annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards gala November 14 at the BRIC Arts Media Center in Brooklyn, New York. The award is named for Critics Choice Lifetime Achievement Award winner, D A Pennebaker, who passed away in 2019. The award will be presented to Cutler by Pennebaker’s producing partner and wife, Chris Hegedus.
