CineLatino Milwaukee Film Festival Expanding at Marcus Theatres

Marcus Theatres has announced the expansion of the CineLatino Milwaukee Film Festival, which is presented by Advocate Aurora Health. The 2019 event takes place April 10-14 and features 15 films, three locations and a variety of special activities that help raise money for the community. A portion of net proceeds will be donated to local Hispanic health and education efforts; combined, the first two years of the festival raised more than $40,000 for these initiatives.

Hendrix Documentary Gets Re-Release

Leading event cinema distributor Abramorama has partnered with Experience Hendrix and Sony Legacy Recordings to release Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church in select theaters around the world. The film opens at the ArcLight Hollywood Cinerama Dome January 31with a special Q&A with director John McDermott, legendary record producer and engineer Eddie Kramer, and Janie Hendrix, the late artist’s sister who is the CEO of Experience Hendrix.

Jackson WWl Documentary To Be Re-Released

On the heels of its already record-breaking release, and in response to popular demand, a third Fathom Events date has been added for Warner Bros. Pictures’ much-heralded WWI documentary They Shall Not Grow Old, from Oscar-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson. The film will be screened at more than 1,000 locations in the U.S. and Canada on Monday, January 21, taking advantage of the long Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend.

Peter Jackson Documentary Sets Fathom Box Office Record

In its first North American presentation, director Peter Jackson’s stunning World War I documentary They Shall Not Grow Old grossed $2.3 million at the domestic box office on Monday, setting a record for Fathom Events as the highest-grossing single-day documentary, and one of the top-grossing single-night presentations of any kind from the distribution company.

Acclaim for 83 Days

83 Days, a shattering narrative short about racial injustice, which was shot with Panasonic cinema cameras, has been named an Official Selection of the 2018 Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival. The film has already received several best of festival nominations, including Best Short Film, Best Drama Film, Best Short Film Director and Best Short Screenplay.

Ascending the Dawn Wall

Technicolor PostWorks New York provided finishing services for The Dawn Wall, the riveting, new documentary from Red Bull House Media about free-climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson’s historic attempt to conquer El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Colorist Keith Jenson worked with co-directors Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer and cinematographer Brett Lowell in finalizing the look of the documentary, which takes audiences along for the climb as Caldwell and Jorgeson test themselves against a sheer, 3,000-foot rock face known as the Dawn Wall.

Where the Wild Things Aren’t

Director of photography Joe Callahan recently completed principal photography on a feature-length documentary about wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in India. The documentary, aiming for premium festival berths, profiles the pioneering work of Wildlife SOS, a worldwide organization dedicated to protecting and conserving India’s natural heritage, forest and wildlife wealth. The majority of location work on the documentary (working title, Where the Wild Things Aren’t) took place last June all across India—jungles, deserts and the teeming cities of Jodhpur, Delhi and Agra.

Technical PostWorks VP Murray to Moderate Panel at Doc NYV Pro Conference

Technical PostWorks vice president of creative services Ben Murray will moderate a panel discussion on preparing films for distribution at next week’s Doc NYC Pro Conference, held in conjunction with the Doc NYC film festival. Murray will be joined by John Campbell, a partner and head of management at Buffalo 8; producer/director Blair Foster of Jigsaw Productions, and filmmaker Alysa Nahmias, founder of Ajna Films.
